Child molesters and child killers, and the lawyers that defend them.

There is a misconception that has to do with how one is "sent" to hell. Often objectors claim that God randomly picks people to be damned as if on a whim. Additionally, they envision that the one sent to hell is absolutely innocent in the matter and had nothing to do with the outcome. On the contrary, Christians have long held that hell is a choice that is made by the one who arrives there (e.g., in Matt. 7:13-14 Jesus says those who choose the broad path walk to destruction). Essentially, then, God does not send people to hell. Rather, people send themselves. Some of the previous answers back that up.

A final misconception about hell is that it is a place of physical torment and torture. Rather, most Christians have understood these descriptions to capture symbolically that hell is final and utter separation from God's saving grace. Some Christians, like C. S. Lewis, take hell to be a real place where sinful people make themselves miserable. Similarly, thinking of heaven as a place of hedonistic pleasures is wrongheaded as well. In fact, those who choose hell would not enjoy the pleasures of heaven since those pleasures essentially flow from a right relationship with God.

'Hell' as in the original meaning of the word--(It is Olde English for the storage of potatoes underground or in a cellar)? This word was used in some Bibles, instead of the words, 'death', or, 'grave'. The Bible is very clear about death being the complete cessation of life...

"Who is worthy of hell?"

Because we each miss the mark of perfection from our start, this means that we are all worthy of death / hell / 'discontinuation'.

Hellfire & torment themselves are myths that are based on the twisting of a Scripture in the Bible, that is talking about Utter Destruction without any hope of re-activation or resurrection:

"Death and Ha′des [the grave] were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire." --Revelation 20:14 ... ... ...

How can death & the grave be tormented...?

That's the Bible's take on this subject (explained in more detail in the source-articles listed), & I embrace it:

An answer....

Everybody.... anyone who have the misfortune of not trying to escape it. Not even us the muslims, if we don't live the way God has command us to live. Nobody is better then the next person, anywho think so is following the footsteps of Satan, and he is the confirmed damned, an avowed enemy.
That is what personal responsibility in folllowing God's Will is all about.
"The best of you in the sight of God is the one who fears Him the most."
God never said us muslim in particular. Only those who did his best to live by the decree of God. "Those who fears Him the most."
Those who didn't fear Him,... I don't have to tell you, do I?

But God have decreed that His Mercy and Forgiveness comes before His Wrath. Seek then for His Forgiveness and Mercy and pray therein for His Love, and thou shalt be delivered, for God is ever near to those who seek Him.

All of us deserve Hell. God chooses out some, plucks some brands from the fire, for salvation, based solely on His grace, mercy and love.

I don't believe in Hell but if for sure it was real...nobody, nobody deserves to be tortured for all eternity. Bad people probably had a terrible childhood so they didn't turn out so well. I don't believe if a person is bad it is completely their fault. And besides, if they had a terrible life on earth, why would anyone want them to have a terrible eternal life being tortured in Hell. That seems pretty evil to me. Just a thought.

Sandra,
NONE are worthy of Heaven. We may be granted a place in Heaven because of Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,

Anyone who would not give up their own life for Jesus Christ. Also, the leaders of this world who are fooling people and bringing them further away from God.

Nobody. God created us all as we are so why would He want to punish anyone for doing what He created them to do. But it does seem that some people tend to get more than their fair share of "hell" here on Earth.

Someone who refuses to accept the gift of Heaven at the very last moment of his life, regardless of how bad a life he led previous to his death. That's called despair which was preceded by pride. Heaven is a gift and cannot be earned.

All of us. We are sinful and therefore unworthy of being in the presence of God. We chose a life of sin, not God. Thankfully, we can escape the horrors of hell if we believe in Christ and the gift he has given us.
