I would keep your promise to her or ask her which she'd rather have. She should be rewarded for doing good in school with something SHE wants, not what someone else thinks she should have.

Well if you promised and she keeps her end of the bargain then you can't go back on it. My 13 yr old wants an ipod for Xmas if she helps out more around the house and improves her grades. I told her if she keeps her promise then of course I would. If she really needs a new bike then get that for her but it should be what she wants if she is doing the hard work for it. Plus it can also depend on what you can afford as some bikes may be dearer and vice versa. I have started pricing ipods and a decent one isn't that cheap. Good luck.

if shes quite old then i would say an ipod.

it can work as a way to get her out of the house and take a walk
i sometimes do that [im 13]

if shes fairly young then a bike.

anyway why not buy her a shuffle [$128] and then a cheaper bike?

never ever promise her something that you arern't sure about! but its does depend on the age too. I got my ipod when i was 10. but it was a family ipod....and if you even get her a bike then make sure its a very special bike that she would love

Get the bike. That has a real use. The ipod is just unnecessary. It will also teach her that life is full of disappointments.

You promised her the iPod and I don't see how having a PORTABLE music player would make her be on the computer even more. It might encourage her to stay off it, once she has her music on it, she can be-bop around instead of being tied to the computer.

you made the promise....however I'd get her both and set a few rules, such as physical exercise before "vegging out" w/ an ipod. She'll grow up a bit healthier than the normal kid these days.

A BIKE... absolutely yes. She will be busy exercising instead wasting time online doing nothing.

get her both
this way she can ride her bike
and not be bored b/c shes listening to music

and if her step father knows her better than you do
maybe you should be spending more time with her
than trying to win her over with materialistic values
