Nothing wrong with one a day if they are over the age of 7. I think kids under 5 should only have it at party's and so forth, if at all. I use to drink up to six a day and it messed my stomach up over several years. If they are drinking more than one a day, maybe two you really should put a stop to it. Buy them juice, kool-aid or bottle water if your water sucks where you live. At the least get a water filter. I know when I was a kid the chlorine in the water why why I never drank it.

Buy only a six pack a week and let them know once its gone that is all they are getting. My kids only drink soda when we eat out or do something special, but I see nothing wrong with kids that drink a Little more than that. Also keep in mind that the sugar in soda can spoil their appetite and cause weight problems. The caffeine can cause sleep problems if they drink it late.

Stay away from the artificial sweaters. I know lots of parents give it to their kids, but the research I have done shows long term effects of it, especially when exposed to high temperatures. Like anything too much can be bad, but a soda now and then will not hurt them.

BTW I too feel bad for kids whose parents never let them eat sweets.

No, I do not let my kids drink sugary or caffeinated drinks like coca cola every day. Yes I think it is wrong. I believe there is little to no nutritional value in these drinks and furthermore they will rot children's teeth out.
I serve ice water with every meal. I do not purchase these sorts of drinks and do not keep them in my house, however, if they are offerred to my children at a friend's house or grandma's then my children are welcome to partake of it as a treat. Bon apetit

Hey, you guys, I'm reading alot of " only when we eat out" Here's a well-kept secret: your kids will eat their food better and actually behave better if they do not have a sweet,and/or caffeinated drink with their meal. Why? because they will fill up on the sweet liquid, probably be offered a refill, and get hyped up, bored and full all before their meal arrives. Experiment with this and you be the judge.

I have a 3 year old and i do not allow her to have sugary or caffeinated drinks. I dont drink those things so why would i give them to her? I have always been pretty strict about this because i dont want my child to be all sugared up and runnin crazy all night! Plus its unhealthy and there are too many alternatives like juice, water or milk. I drank a lot of pepsi when i was growing up and found that it made me feel pretty bad. I quit drinking soda and started drinking only water and started feeling 100% better! I lost weight, stopped having headaches, slept better at night and had more energy when i needed it. I kind of wish my parents wouldnt have allowed me to drink so much soda growing up, actually.

NO NO NO!!
My husband has a brain tumor and the nuero oncologist we see said that caffeine is a drug in young kids and totally not safe. The sugar is another story and effects kids differently. A hyper kid is a pain to every one and they sure can't learn and sit still when needed. The caffeine can cause all other types of issues. If a child may be prone to seizures caffeine can be a trigger. Childrens systems are not strong enough to have all that garbage put in them . Our kids have enough crap to endure later in life. We really need to give them the healthest head start we can. See below.
In both kids and adults, too much caffeine can cause:

jitteriness and nervousness
upset stomach
headaches
difficulty concentrating
difficulty sleeping
increased heart rate
increased blood pressure
Especially in young children, it doesn't take a lot of caffeine to produce these effects.

Other reasons to limit kids' caffeine consumption include:

Consuming one 12-ounce (355-milliliter) sweetened soft drink per day increases a child's risk of obesity by 60%.

no i would not ! every day is absolutely help them dig their own grave. coke has caffeine. and Caffeine is best known for its stimulant, or "wake-up," effect. Once a person consumes caffeine, it is readily absorbed by the body and carried around in the bloodstream, where its level peaks about one hour after consumption. Caffeine mildly stimulates the nervous and cardiovascular systems. It affects the brain and results in elevated mood, decreased fatigue, and increased attentiveness, so a person can think more clearly and work harder. It also increases the heart rate, blood flow, respiratory rate, and metabolic rate for several hours. When taken before bedtime, caffeine can interfere with getting to sleep or staying asleep.

Exactly how caffeine will affect an individual, and for how long, depends on many factors, including the amount of caffeine ingested, whether one is male or female, one's height and weight, one's age, and whether one is pregnant or smokes. Caffeine is converted by the liver into substances that are excreted in the urine.

Some people are more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than others. With frequent use, tolerance to many of the effects of caffeine will develop. At doses of 600 milligrams (about six cups of coffee) or more daily, caffeine can cause nervousness, sweating, tenseness, upset stomach, anxiety, and insomnia. It can also prevent clear thinking and increase the side effects of certain medications. This level of caffeine intake represents a significant health risk.

Caffeine can be mildly addictive. Even when moderate amounts of caffeine are withdrawn for 18 to 24 hours, one may feel symptoms such as headache, fatigue, irritability, depression, and poor concentration. The symptoms peak within 24 to 48 hours and progressively decrease over the course of a week. To minimize withdrawal symptoms, experts recommend reducing caffeine intake gradually.

Caffein is the most addictive drug there is. If you give young children too much of it, they become addicted to it, and become dependent on it. Plus, of course it's full of surgar which is bad for them. Every once in a while it might be okay for a treat, but I also think that there are limits on that as well. Giving very young children pop ( yes I'm from the pitt. area and thats what I call it) is also very dangerous. Nothing makes me more sick than seeing a child drinking pop out of a sippy cup, or even worse, a bottle. They are young and still growing, why litter their bodies with something they don't need already?

I would let them have these drinks around holidays and for a special treat until they are old enough to know about healthy dietary decisions. Too much can give you ulcers and cavities from the acid and make you addicted to caffine. BUT... they'll be absolute freaks of nature to the other kids their age if they don't know what pepsi tastes like. I always felt bad for kids who's moms didn't let them enjoy a sugary, deliciously unhealthy treat every once in a while. Protect, but don't smother.

No I wouldn't let my kids drink things like that every day. If its not even good for us adults to do it, what makes it good for little kids? It makes them hyper, gain unnecessary weight, rots teeth, and it proven that caffeine is addictive... so i would so no. Only on occasion would i let me kids drink sugary caffeinated drinks.

I don't forbid it, but it's not on our grocery list - none of us needs to drink it, truly. She'll get soda sometimes if we go out to eat (usually though it's milk or juice). I don't like the idea of kids on caffeine personally, and I don't see the point in filling her up with sugar/empty calories. As much energy as she expends every day, I feel obligated to make sure she's eating right to keep up that pace. :)

My daughter can have one can of Coca Cola over the weekend either on Friday or Saturday. But she rather chooses fruit juices or water. But its definitely not regular in my household.
