Nope. In many ways, I'm a hell of a lot closer these days than I used to be. But I doubt there's anyone who has truly mastered himself. Have you ever met anyone who is in complete control of his emotions at all times? I haven't.
But it's a worthy goal.

I admire Lao Tzu. I believe he just might have truly mastered himself. I think self mastery is a rarity and I have not accomplished this. It's a lofty goal to shoot for and I hope to one day attain it before I die.

Nope, but it's definitely a goal I work towards every day.
Sometimes you are your own worst enemy. Stuff that affected you in childhood for example which you haven't confronted can come back to haunt you and hinder you from achieving your full potential as an adult.

I've spent 12 years in meditation, and the definition of "self" keeps expanding. I'll let you know.

Yeup and as soon as I finish checking my emails I'm going to master myself one more time tonight.

I agree with it. And no, I am not there yet.
It's a bit like the Greek "Know Thyself." There's always more than can be known or done.
