Hi i had an abscess in my mouth drained yesterday but she left the bad tooth open to drain more out?

Dentist sed face swellin would go down but its worse this mornin.Do i need to go back to dentist?Started takin antibiotics yesterday how long before swellin goes down?Is it normal for swellin to get abit worse after draining?Please help i look and feel like a freak.xxx

After the tooth was initially drained, it is not usual to leave it open - this allows further bacteria inside. Instead, after the drainage had finished, an antibacterial dressing would have been more appropriate, and the tooth sealed.
If the swelling has worsened, then see the dentist again and ask for fresh drainage and flushing with NaOCl (bleach), an antibacterial dressing (CaOH2 or Ledermix), and a temp filling.
You may also benefit from an additional antibiotic. Commonly a wide spectrum penicillin is used first, and if that is not enough on its own, then an additional script of metronidazole can be helpful.

It's OK but watch it. It is vital you take the whole course of antibiotics and if it is still bad after five days go back to the dentist.

Have someone check on you if you live alone. For sure go to the hospital if your swelling increases especially if it blocks your airway, very serious. Don't count on every doctor knowing what they are doing, a cousin of mine went to hospital for swelling after the dentist and it was serious. So even if anti-biotics don't kick in quick swelling needs to be monitored so have someone check in on you.

its very normal...ever heard the phrase everything always gets worse before it gets better? Anti-biotics usually take 3-4 days to start working..If the swelling gets close to your eyes or starts affecting your breathing in your nose then go to E.R immidiatly
