anyone but he did commit a serious offense that landed him in federal prison for 20years. He called the house today and I told him I was having a great time (at his parents for thanksgiving) and asked him how things were with him. Seems like a stupid question, huh? I think to myself, "Amber, he's in prison how do you think he's doing?" duh. But I want to keep in touch and let him know I love him. I want to be able to say and ask things that are appropriate and show I care without every question having to be answered with it sucks being here, even though he doesn't do that. I'm feeling awkward and I just need some guidence. I can't ask him, "how's your thanksgiving?" Cause we all know it's really crappy. I hope I'm making a tad bit of sense. He really is a good kid but he just has some issues he needs to deal wtih and it's important that I keep in contact with him. Pleases and thank-you's.

Sorry, but hes in prison. He has lost out on thousands of good paying jobs the minute his file was created. He has condemned himself to a life of name tags and hair nets. By the time he gets out, his socialization skills will be seriously lacking. Job experience will be nill. Education will, or probably is also lacking. And his perspective on the realities of the outside world will be somewhat warped and skewed beyond what they already are.

He may have been a good kid once. But upon release, he will be a burdon to society, or at the least to your family, and not to mention, 20 or so years older.

I would not worry too much about the dos and the donts. He didn't. All you can do is tell him you and others love and think of him often. It will be appreciated I'm sure.

I sent a friend a post card of a woman in a bikini from St. Kitts once. My friend was in jail. I later apologized for sending it since he was in jail and I was on a cruise. He said he was glad to get the post card. Any contact with the outside world is meaningful to your cousin. He wants to hear about your Thanksgiving, and he might want to mention any classes he is taking, or jobs he is doing while in prison. They might seem of little importance to you, but to him they are all he has going for him right now.

My advice is to just talk to him, and your conversation doesn't have to be sugar coated.

Sometimes the dumb questions still show you care . He would appreciate the cards and letters

Don't say anything that would get other people attention!!! You can say anything. But, remember that what you say is being recorded.
