His rank is Navy Captain. So, his base pay is between $6,000 and $7,000 a month. I know he pays Federal Income Tax and FICA tax out of that. That's because the Feds started taxing the military beginning in 1956. Until then, no one on active duty in the uniform of the U.S. paid Federal Income Taxes. If he is from a State which has its own income tax he might pay that as well unless he is exempted from paying that while stationed outside the state.
And, for that magnificent sum of money he is in charge of a ship that stands over 20 stories high, is longer than three football fields, has a nuclear propulsion system and launches and retrieves aircraft from its deck, while he is also in charge of the 5,000+ men and women on board the ship.
