well, if you're still in highschool then i recommend interning!!
You get work experience, network, and possibly get paid while doing it.

Im almost a junior in college and i still don't know what to do! But I do know what I'm not interested in and I thank that to my internships.

ps
do some online research at http://www.bls.gov/oco/cg/home.htm
it gives you a realistic view on many careers

welcome ... you've discovered the great American secret ... most of us have no idea what we want to be when we grow up.

more seriously, you'll likely have a series of jobs and/or careers over your lifetime. Change is becoming normal.

So what I'd suggest is to try stuff out and discover how you like it at this point in your life.

Try out different classes in college. [You'll likely get stuck with Freshman Composition or English 101 or whatever its called no matter what.] Try a social science. A natural science. maybe some math. computer something.

Working part time at something new to you will add more understanding of what you do and don't like. Carry that same idea on into summers -- explore work, looking for what you do and don't like.

that's exactly what I did -- without knowing I was doing it. I flunked foreign language in college and got Ds in literature. But I got Bs in math and sciences and a series of As in computer subjects.

Took Business Law and Accounting because of a summer job I had after my freshman year and liked them. Because I liked them and they seemed relevant to what I was doing summers, they seemed easy and I got near all As in business subjects.

'Twas a good first direction for me. Lasted about 10 years and then I transferrred laterally into something else.

Your counselor will probably have aptitude tests you could take. They can give you some insight into career paths that might best suit your strengths. Don't get too hung up though you'll probably change your mind in college.

At a minimum go to college.

1st step: take an aptitude test and ask your favorite teacher or a career counselor to halp your interpretation. Once you decide and get settled into something put everything you have into your new career -- it will set the tone for the rest of your working life..

Most kids your age are undecided. Take a general liberal arts program in college and take lots of different courses to see what you like. They also can give you an aptitude test.
