I am asking for your opinions, and would prefer that people be tolerant of eachothers views. As we are all entitled to believe what we choose.

Please list the differences or similarities, as it will be more helpful to me.

Spirituality and religion are certainly not the same. A person could be a very orthodox follower of a specific belief and be totally void of any spirituality. On the other hand, a person could be very spiritual and not follow any particular religion. If a person takes everything in their religious dogma literally and is focused on being judgemental and has a heart that is hard and closed, then it would be impossible for that person to be spiritual. I think that spirituality is experiential and that makes a world of difference. I believe that religious practices can place a person in a situation or state which could open a window to the otherworldly, or spiritual. This is such a difficult subject to discuss in an open forum where you don't really know where your audience is or on what level of understanding the other person is situated.

Religion is structured, public, normally run by male dominated groups and is normally, though not always taught as truth from a book that man himself wrote and edited and said was written by God.

Spirituality is more personal, is based on what you believe and practice. It is how you conduct yourself while around others and alone, and it is not based on a book supposedly written by God!

Actually both are important and how you worship is also important and up to you. Religion is a way of structuring your beliefs while Spirituality is how you use it. Both are important because you can't have one without the other, nor can your life be balanced!

No. Religion is organized by a group of people and tends to follow specific beliefs and laws. Spirituality on the other hand is a very personal thing and varies with each individual. I personally think spirituality is more valuable.

No, I don't think so. The words don't mean quite the same. A religion is a set of statements about facts (which may or may not be true). Spirituality is more vague, emotional, and harder to pin down. Religion is much more valuable, because you can actually do something about it.

Spirituality is far more important that religion

-religion is creation of people

-charity and kindness toward your fellow beings is more important that ritual

--some people are physically incapable of going to church--does that mean they are bad people?

--some religions will lead you into total darkness--that is undeniable. How can you be a good person who only follows and doesn't take his own iniative to find the truth?

--religion is personal. If it is just to show and flaunt to the world, or to go through the motion to belong to a group, you are nothing but a fake, a poser, and a hypocrite

No. In the Christian Bible it doesn't mention many religions. It mainly talks about God and his wishes for us. A religion can misinterpret something, but you get the basic gist. You dont have to claim a religion to be spiritual. . Being spiritual is a personal journey and / or relationship with a God or Gods....etc.... and is subjective.

I don't believe they are the same. Religion without spirituality would just be a book of rules that didn't mean anything. Religion isn't necessary to spirituality, in my opinion. Spirituality IS necessary to a positive practice of religion, however.

I believe that spirituality is one big umbrella that all religions follow. Diffrernt people interpreted spirtuality different ways, and adapted it to their cultures. In essence , we all are part of one big whole.. some choose to believe one part of the whole and discard the rest
