John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever"
John 15:26 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me"
John 14:26 "But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
John 16:7-14 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you."

Jesus said 'another comforter'. Meaning that there was one comforter, and there will be another. He was a bringer of the Good News.
Isaiah 61
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor

So he meant himself, but another would come, he said, because he was leaving. He also called the Comforter who was coming 'Counselor', who would work with all those on Earth concerning three things:

8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
(John 16 )

And Jesus also said that righteousness would be obtained through himself, for those who believe:

10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;
( John 16 )

So these verses point out that Jesus is the center of what those who believe in him focus upon.

Note: Many times Muslims will use some of these verses to point to Mohammed. This is purely using scripture for their own purposes. Since no prophecy is of private interpretation, the Muslims are clearly wrong about this. For one thing they do not believe in Jesus as bing God's Son, and for another thing they blaspheme against the Holy Spirit by taking these words out of context. They are bearing false witness and testifying against God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit at the same time by teaching that these verse have to do with a sinning man such as Mohammed.

The Holy Spirit

2007-11-22 15:05:03 · answer #4 · answered by Anonymous · 4 0

Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit. since the purpose of the Holy Spirit is not condemnation but conviction fo the need for the Savior. The Son does the judgment, with the Father, it is said He will reveal the glories of Christ to His people.

Not believeing in Jesus as Messiah and Son of God is the only sin, ultimately, that damns people to hell. The Holy Spirits purpose is to shatter the pretensions of self-righteousness (hypocrisy) exposing the darkness of the heart. The ruler of this world is Satan. The judgment is that of satans world under his control. Judgment was blind, faulty, and evil as evidenced in their verdict on Christ. The 'He will glorify Me' is really the same as vs. 13 in that all NT truth revealed by God centers in Christ. The supernatural revelation of all truth by which God has revealed Himself in Christ.

The Father is God and the first person of the Blessed Trinity.
The Comforter is the Holy Spirit who is also God and the third person of the Blessed Trinity.
Jesus is God and the 2nd person of the Blessed Trinity incarnate.

The Blessed Trinity is the one true God, not as a single person, but as a deep UNITY of three persons.
