Do you have income from self-employment? You do not have to be an employee to file a tax return and get credits for claiming your child.

If you have been working for cash or tips, collect your records and go to a tax preparation place and get an experienced tax preparer.

It is possible that you can get a refund by filing your taxes, even if no taxes have been withheld from your earnings. This is because you may qualify for the Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit based on your qualifying child.

No, you don't have a deduction, or a credit, for a child if you don't have any income.

If you have no income, it serves no purpose.
