Hello, as of about 1 1/2 years ago I really found I love trying different kinds of beer. I finally settled on Samual Adams and have been drinking this exclusively for a while now. (Including the seasonal and different brews). Now I really want to branch out and see what else is out there.

Does anyone have any recommendations for beers that are easy to find at Krogers, Walmart or Meiyer? Most of the really good rated beers I find online are difficult to find. They can be any type of alcoholic beer you can recommend.

Also, yes - I am over 21.

Thanks!

Okay, first of all I am from the US. I really prefer things that are not Bud Light, Michelob light, or any of those types of beers. I like sophisticated taste. Also, Jack Daniel's isn't even a freaking beer, it's a Whiskey. Unless you have some sort of crazy Jack Daniel's beer you are talking about.

Also I do live in Ohio! I'm in Mansfield but I'll have to check around and see if I can't buy it locally around here.

Hi there,

I'm not really sure what's stocked at those distributors/channels you mentioned ("Walmart, ... ") but I do have a few suggestions.

If you're not too worried about heavy beers, you might enjoy Dogfish Head's Olde School Barleywine (Dogfish Head Brewery is based in Delaware). It has an excellently unique taste with extremely slight hints of fruit, but not so much that the beer loses its male credibility and turns into some sort of heavy red wine.

There's always Warsteiner, which is one of the more popular German beer brands in the US. They have a small but decent selection of grades, but the Dunkel is by far the smoothest. I can usually find this brand almost everywhere and a bit more easily than I can with the Dogfish Head (but it's worth it).

If you like slightly more bitter beers, then you might like Brooklyn Brewery. The taste has a slight bite to it that smooths itself out over time, and it's not a hard beer to stomach as well. It's really easy for me to find this brand in most stores, but I live in Manhattan so I could just be giving useless information.

All in all, you can always test the strength of a good beer with regard to taste and craft by buying a rice beer (the Japanese ones are good testers). Say you have an IPA; take a sip of it. Then sip the rice beer. Finally, go back to the IPA. If you notice that the IPA is starting to taste a bit darker, as though it were a Guinness Stout, for example, then it's probably a really shitty IPA. I'm sorry if you already knew this, I probably seem like an asshole, but I just really love beer.

Cutting to the chase: Franziskaner, Beck's, ***** Modelo, Tecate are all easily found in a deli.

I hope this can be helpful and I am glad that you do not settle for Miller.

Good luck,
Katlin

I've recently taken to trying different beers, too!

I really enjoy Blue Moon's fall flavor, Harvest Moon. They have a Winter Moon available now, too. I haven't tried it but I hear it's amazing.

The Great Lakes Brewing Company has great stuff, too. The Edmund Fitzgerald brew is really dark and has a hint of coffee and chocolate. The Moses pale ale (forget its actual name) is very light and crisp, almost citrus.

Finally, Leinenkugel's is a midwest brewery that has great stuff. I really enjoy their Sunset Wheat and Dark Ale. Right now they have a season Apple Spice ale that's pretty good (kinda sweet). Their Berry Weiss is very perfume-y, I can't drink a whole one. In the summer, they have a beer-lemonade hybrid that is TO DIE FOR called Summer Shandy. So good, I can't wait for it next summer!

I hope that helps a little!

If you like Samuel Adams, I think that you would like Newcastle Brown Ale.

I think that you would also like Oregon Honeybrew (a bit hard to find).
