too many video games, too little one on one parenting?

Do you think parents are too busy working nowadays to properly parent their children?

I think too many parents are afraid to be "the bad guy". They always want to look favorable in their children's eyes or don't want to admit that their children have done something wrong. I hate to break it to ya, but being the bad guy sometimes, disciplining your child, punishments etc is how you get well behaved and respectful children.
I have 4 kids and my older three know very well that I had little patience for acting up. No, I'm not a scream queen and get annoyed over every little thing, but they know to behave when I'm around and NOT AROUND because that's how they've been raised. You don't need to be around 24/7 to raise a "good" child, just need to learn to be loving and firm at the same tme.
Best Wishes =]

I agree to it all another reason is lack of discipline Kids get away with so much these days half the time the parents are just too tired at the end of the work day to bother with the fight and it is truely sad how kids are set in front of a tv or allowed to roam the streets all hours of the night doing whatever they want.

I agree to everything you said. I even seen a stay-at-home mom have bad behaved kids because she let them watch as much unsupervised t.v. and video games. And now maybe 4 out of 5 of her kids are addicted to video games. She also wonders why they don't listen to her. I remember them watching one show where the children were so disrespectful to their parents. There was a cartoon that was all about tennis and that was actually one good thing they got out of t.v. They started wanting to play tennis. I don't have a t.v. and I'm glad I don't. There's just too much bad than good in it.

I dont agree to any of this.

I was born in 1966, my parents worked 5 days a week with one doing overtime. I watched a lot of tv in my time and turned out to be a well adjusted adult.

My son who is nearly 9 plays Xbox and play station games and again is turning into a well adjusted human being. He plays soccer, has lots of friends, is above average at school and most importantly is well behaved.

I do believe the enviroment you are brought up in makes you the person you are. If we lived in an area where all the parents were unemployed, sat around all day drinking and taking drugs and I didnt take an interest in my sons day to day life then I am sure he would turn out to be a 'bad kid'.

But I wouldn't blame technology into turning kids bad. When Jack the Ripper was doing his 'thing', all they had was electricity. What do you blame his behaviour on?

Amen sister!!!! haha!! Unfortunately that's how it is nowadays. Too many parents let Dora the explorer and Diego babysit and teach there children. I see all these new gadgets out there V-tech, leapfrog. Of coarse these are wonderful tools to help keep your child interested in learning but what ever happned to good old fashioned story time???? Or hands on learning with mom and dad???? Trips to the zoo and to the children's museums, or the library for goddness sake!!!

Parenting skills have not been passed on for 3 generations!
After WWII, both parents started working outside the home.
Children have been parked in front of TV & Video games.
But the biggest factor IMHO is lack of religion & morality.
Modern education has created relativism of standards.
Schools are forbidden to teach religion & parents can't/don't.

I think the biggest problem especially in America is no one accepts responsibility for anything. There is always an excuse - some reason for inexcusable behaviour. Someone or something else to blame

You are on the way to the anwer.
Also, parents are afraid to be parents and don't provide the guidance children need.

in a word YES. Also parents don't seem to want to discipline their kids. God forbid their kids get angry at them
