Because the early (and recent) Church(es) consider women, healers and pagans a threat! People don't learn about them and instead they spout how evil anybody is who does not think their way. Wicca is nature based, does not worship a devil who is Christian made, does not condone cheating stealing, lust, jealousy or putting people down just because they don't believe in the same things! Funny, now the newer Christians are saying the Catholics are idol worshipers, and Satan worshipers as well! Just because the heads of their Churches say so, even though Catholics also hold Christ as their savior. I have run across many who say I don't believe, maybe so, but I do respect their opinions yet do not wished to be forced into believing something that in my soul is not right for me! We do do good, just leave us alone! It is the dark ages mentality that will start the killing of Innocent people again. Killing should only be for food and protection, and I for one would rather kill for food! Yes, Christ existed. I do not doubt that, and I believe there is a creator, but my path is not yours yet I know in my heart I will be with the creator one day!
And if GOD didn't want there to be powers and witches, there would be none because (according to the bible) he wiped out the evil twice! Once with Lot and his family escaping and the second time was when Noah built the arc. Besides didn't Christ supposidly DIE for our SINS!?!

First, although some Wiccans are Witches not all Witches are Wiccan. Witch is a general term used to describe rituals performed by many ancient faiths in Native American, South American, Australian and African cultures.

Wicca takes all 10 Commandments and summarizes them in one: An Ye Harm None, Do As Ye Will. This is the ethical and moral guide for Wiccans. As long as your actions will not physically or emotionally or financially harm anyone else they they are considered "right". If your actions would harm another in anyway than they are considered "wrong".

So you are right, although Wicca does not have a "Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's wife", it goes without saying that doing so would cause emotional harm to both your wife and her husband if your indiscretions were to be discovered, therefore cheating would be forbidden under the idea of "Harm None".

Why are Witches evil in the Bible? Because the gods of the old religion always become the devils of the new. How would Judeo-Christianity attract and retain followers if there was any other possible spiritual path to follow? So the church leaders make devils and evil out of everything from the old religion. They then brand all magical and ritual practices not sanctioned by their own religion and doctrine as "evil" and as being "of the devil".

I hope that made sense.

The word "witch" only showed up in the Bible in the early 17th century, during the witch hunts. Even today, many translations do not mention witches. Often they mention sorceresses. The original term meant someone who worked malevolent magic. (That's also the original meaning of "witch" BTW). The definition of the word changed in the 20th century. "Witchcraft" started describing a more nuetral practice, and sometimes you come cross terms like "white witches" and "black witches" for good and evil uses. The Bible does not say "the occult is evil." The Bible makes a variety of statements about a very wide variety of specific practices, and I really strongly suggest people interested in actual Biblical views of such things to research the various passages that discuss such things, rather than trusting someone's gross oversimplification.

I believe it is a combination of things. One passage in the Bible says (Book of Deuteronomy) that let no one be found among you who interprets omens or engages in witchcraft. It can come down to a translation issue, because "interpreting omens" sounds to me like a stock broker. Another that many Christians don't realize is that the Bible has been reinterpreted many times and was hand written for a long time. That alone can cause misinterpretation. Then the around the 4th century only certain books were chosen to the "official" cannon of the early Christian church. Who is to say what was in the other books and why they were not chosen. Why would "God" create plants that can heal but forbid the use of them, which is what many "witches" do. They are more then 10 different "Christian" groups, if they can't agree on the same thing, then how do we even know if any of it is correct.

Wicca is the name, and witchcraft is the game--and the Devil is laughing his head off. It's time to examine some more paganistic mumbo-jumbo gumbo. Into darkness we go to discover the evil force that masquerades behind the name Wicca...

Wicca witchcraft calls itself "white witchcraft". This supposedly denotes that Wiccans only do "good" witchcraft. As I see it,

the witches in Wicca have been watching too much Bewitched,
the witches in Wicca been watching too much I Dream of Jeannie,
the witches in Wicca been watching too much Sabrina the Good (or Teen) Witch, and
the witches in Wicca been watching too much Casper the Friendly Ghost.

According to the Bible, there is no such thing as a good witch.

Hence, based on the Bible, ALL witches are wicked--including Wiccans. So Christian...if unholy-wood and a bunch of confused Wiccans tell you that white witches are good, who are you going to believe? Them or the Bible? Just because

a Wiccan who believes fairy stories and legends of the Grail doesn't mean that a Wiccan is harmless or good.

Just because Wiccans gather herbs and dance naked in the moonlight doesn't mean they are good.

Just because Wiccans worship the Great Mother earth and are environmentalists doesn't mean that they are good or harmless.

We define good or bad in relation to the Bible and the Bible ALONE.

According to Catherine Edwards Sanders, Breaking the Spell: The Hidden Traps of Wicca...

"Wiccans do not believe in sin as Christians do. They see sin as an outdated, constraining concept. Therefore, they see no need for God. Wiccan high priestess Starhawk says, 'We can now open new eyes and see there is nothing to be saved from, no struggle of life against the universe, no God outside the world, to be feared and obeyed.' Through spiritual self-improvement, Wiccans hope to reach their equivalent of heaven, called the Summerland or the Land of Eternal Youth. On the other hand, the Bible tells us that no amount of good work can get us to heaven. Through Christ alone we are saved."

Wicca as a group is not old. Wiccans believe the lies that their leaders have taught them. This should be no surprise because their father, the devil, is the "father of lies" (John 8:44). And because they have not received the love of the truth, the Lord has given them over to strong delusion that they should believe, and defend, lies. According Mr. Schnoebelen on page 11 of his book on Wicca--

"Although much of the extant literature written by witches (and Dr. Margaret Murray's work) would lead one to believe that Wicca is a survival of the ancient pagan fertility cults, especially of Northern Europe and the British Isles; there is not a shred of real historical proof for any connection between Bronze Age cults and modern witchcraft."

"...it seemed that Wicca is, in fact, a manufactured religion not much older than this century. There did not seem to be evidence for any Book of Shadows (a combined "bible" and ritual book for Wiccans) much older than the 1910's! [the BoS was probably the result of a collaboration between Gerald Gardner and the notorious Satanist Aleister Crowley, p. 22]"

Although Wicca is new, the forces behind Wicca aren't new. Wicca is the same old wicked devil worship and rejection of God. It's simply been warmed over and served to a spiritually devastated world. People would rather believe lies and do what they want to than believe the Lord and surrender to Him. Consequently they will have no peace. Jesus or hell are the only two choices.

"There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God." -Deuteronomy 18:10-13

Christianity aknowledges two main sources for supernatural powers. God and Satan (Fallen angels) It is because their power comes from the fallen angels. Satan is a fallen angel and he took 1/3 of the angels with him. If God is not the source of the power behind a "spell" then it must be Satan masquerading as an angel of light. The Bible doesn't say that Satan can only do evil deeds. He is capable of truth AND lies. He is also capable of creating "magic" and supernatural events to occur. That is not to say that witches are not some very lovable people... but the powers they do have, do not come from the right source. Even though I believe their power is from the wrong source, I would never be mean to them if I can help it. Many people don't realize where the power is coming from.

Being informed about something you are going to talk about is a good idea. There are no witches in the Bible. And I was a witch, I know what you think, and you are being deceived. You feel like you are doing good and right, but its not benefiting the right things. Maybe someday you will open you mind and heart and ask for the Truth to be shown to you. Good luck

Well put John!

Because God so decreed that they are evil because they do not put Him first in their lives.

There are witches in the Bible and they are condemned.

Dt 18:9 “When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the LORD your God will drive them out ahead of you. 13 But you must be blameless before the LORD your God. 14 The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the LORD your God forbids you to do such things.”

because the purpose of the old testament was to protect and reinforce the hebrew culture, so it rejects anything that is not hebrew; which is fine if you're hebrew. and because the purpose of the new testament as it has been handed down to us was to protect and reinforce the faltering roman empire; constantine needed a rabid dogma to forcibly unify an empire that had lost its cultural focus. the christians proceeded to take themselves far too seriously.

witches in the bible are evil because everything that is not christian is considered evil. there are many good christians who are willing to accept other points of view; but they are unfortunately outnumbered on here by narrow-minded hell mongers.

Because their source of power is demonic. Satan and demons have great power (compared to humans) ( see Mark 5:1-20; Acts 19:13-16), even to the point where Michael the archangel trusts only in God’s power when dealing with Satan (Jude 1:9).
