Your question needs more conditions. Best reputation for what? There are many makers that are known for quality, and so among them it's like trying to decide between Chevy or Ford (no slight intended toward either brand!)
More important than make, you need to articulate your purpose (bird hunting, varmit hunting, big game hunting) and the range of caliber that you are researching, then people can help you narrow your search.

The answer requires looking at 1) political, 2) historical, 3) metallurgical, 4) overall product quality, 5) Accuracy, 6) Cost to the consumer.
Ruger has a high quality product, reasonably priced, and has NEVER caved to political pressure from the anti-gun machine or UN.
Most of the German products have a questionable history (political), but are of high quality, and are usually relatively expensive.
Smith and Wesson politically caved to the anti-gun forces and limited who it would sell to, giving open access to sales records information WITHOUT a warrant and against the federal rules. Their product has declined in quality and is expensive.
As with any question, there is never a simple one word answer.

Smith and Wesson revolvers. Their semi-autos are horrible (in my opinion).
Sig Sauer is good
Colt, Springfield Armory, Beretta, Para Ordinance, Ruger, Glocks...There are alot of reputable manufactures.
I myself like Springfield Armory XDs and Berettas.

With your lack of qualifying information I can only throw out various names that are known world wide and well thought of; Mauser, Colt, Winchester, Browning. These are names that have been around for generations and generations. Sorry, best I could do.

At the present time Glock. Some may not like the looks of the gun, or for some other reason, but the Glocks are super reliable and durable. This has been proven through the test of time in combat conditions in the military and in law enforcement.
