I believe the motive is sometimes unclear. Maybe:
Witness to something
Mad at the Victim
Not wanting the victim to identify yourself to the police

The victim cheated off of the murderer's test during medical school and is now misdiagnosing his patience. So no in order to save future patience and to exact revenge the murder is going to kill him.

The murderer was in a lottery pool with the victim, and the victim won on his personal ticket and the pool tickets lost, or so he said. The killer found that the winning ticket was REALLY one of the tickets from the lottery pool.
