Im sorry, but it makes me laugh to see people who have black belts in a martial arts feel that they are basically ninjas! lol

seriously, i have done tae kwon do, karate, hapkido, BJJ, MMA, kickboxing, premier martial arts and KRAV MAGA for many years.. and even i can see that just because you are a black belt does not mean you can take on anyone or that you're a ninja.. belts are so stupid.

I love how people are so conceded, but we all know if they got in a real fight... their survival instincts are gonna take over... unless you train everyday.. hard core... 110%

prepare yourself for phone cords, bats, knives, guns, sweat, fear, beating, broken bones, gangs, etc etc.. realize that there are no rules on the street... realize that anything can happen and that you can't "tap out" or call out "time"... realize that maybe your cheek will be ripped off and your nose will be broken.. a bullet in you leg. (is your black belt gonna mean anything?) NO!
belts don't mean anything.

um, yes its about the training it takes to become a black belt... but most kids don't give a crap. I teach my kids that its not about the belt it about self defense.

mr. white

yes i see your point... but thats not my point.

you see, it IS about beating people up.. i mean, its all about winning, and being able to survive in this
"dog eat dog world"

and i know its sad, and i do realize that you love the "art" but im not talking about the "art" im talking about self defense. there is a difference, and yes... not everyone is made for "art"

and that comes to my point... those who get their black belts just for the title.. they care nothing about the training, they just want to be ninjas... and by which i mean... stupid pathetic people.

but i do respect those who make their belts worth while.

in a legit way.

end.

Gr8 atitude, Krav maga is the best for actual defence, but still a black belt (if it is legit) is still worth something. but i agree with you

To a point your correct. The belt doesn't mean anything in the real world. Whether it's black, yellow, white, really doesn't mean anything unless your going to choke someone out with it. To some people it gives a sense of accomplishment to others it could mean anything. That's for them to decide. With that said, reality based systems like Krav Maga have their place in the world. Just like all other arts do. The thing you fail to realize about it, is the fact it's not the art that makes the person. It's the person that makes the art what it is. Now alot of this depends on the type of training you've had. If you trained in sports martial arts and got into a street fight situation then you might be in trouble. Because your sport training taught you for sport not life and limb. In the same context a reality based system like K.M. training was designed for battle field use which is NOT the your typical street situation. If a guy pokes his finger in your chest and does nothing else and you answer back with ripping his throat out, who do you think goes to jail? Would that seem excessive? And I'm sure if it was your boyfriend poking the finger and got his throat ripped out you would be saying that was excessive and a few other choice words. The problem with reality based systems while affective do teach a person to be extreme from the get go. Hence the battle field mentality. You have to be reasonable in your responce if you dont want to be the one ending up in jail. No matter how right you were in that situation. Don't get me wrong I'm all about reality, as a cop I need to be. But I am also responsible for my actions. Just as you should be. Years of training will teach you control of yourself. Which when its all said and done is what its all about. Controlling yourself and doing the right thing, when its the wrong time.

Good point about people earning thier black belts and translating it to mean "I AM NOW INVINCIBLE". They apparently missed the point of the whole thing. The journey through the lower ranks is akin to building a house: yuo start by pouring the FOUNDATION, THEN start building the house. All the lower ranks, regardless of martial art/belt color, get you to the point where you are truly prepared to START learning the martial art you have chosen. There is a REASON that, at least in Tae Kwon Do, the first three Dan ranks are referred to as NOVICE ranks, not to mention that you must hold the rank and continue to train fro a period not less than 6 months before you are officially a "decided" 1st Dan.

It's not the belt that means anything. It's what YOU think the belt signifies.

I think that everyone who doesn't do Krav will eventually be jumped by gangsters and killed. with a fork.

I went to almost all those 2 and it true. Tae Kwon Do is worth next to crap. U go there u don't get 2 be a BAMF. U get to be a
praying mantis. U just sit on it, and its dead. the last thing it hears is a squishing crunchy sound. I agree that some people
are idiots to think black belts make u a fighting champ. Imagine this....a 30 year old white belt fighting 10 year old black belt.... what happens? White belt kills black belt in 1 hit. Black belt does nothing. The end.

WOW........i agree with everything u said

Belts do mean something to the person who spent years trying hard to get them. It represents the hard work that one has attained. I think that it is important within any martial art or non-art, (just kicking ***), to walk in humility rather than pride. Pride is what gets people hurt and humility is what will allow a person to win in the long run. If you are practicing martial arts or matial beatings, remember that to gain comes by sweat, determination, skill, and alot of the time, just plain old luck of the cards. I like your attitude though...Keep up the passion for what you do, it's a hell of a lot better than complacency.

Was that a question?
I'm embarrassed by some of the black belts I have known. I hope non of my students behave like that. A positive attitude is good; however bragging and talking trash is stupid and demeaning to any art. We include street techniques in our adult and junior programs. You are right the street is not the same as the nice safe mat where no one is trying to actually kill you. All students of any art need to understand the difference. A good school will impress this upon their students.

belt doesn't mean anything, its only something that gives meaning to others and in a real fight the only thing that matters is how much training you put in yourself

Getting into the ring and fighting full contact is the next best thing to actual street fights so you learn to control your instincs enough to let them work for you and not against you

But basicaly yeah, belts don't mean much in the street but should represnt that a person is at a certain level, in the street anything can happon but thats why one of the main philosophys of martial arts is to not look for fights but at the same time it teaches you not to fear them either when they happon

That is so right! Martial "ART'S" is nothing but an "ART"! If your walkin' down da street and a guy jumps u wit a gun what do ya do... "Take the gun from the attackers hands wit your foot and hit him... they wont expect that. Anyone who thinks they are da man because of a belt is a idiot maxed out! If you have a black belt then wip the idiot. shesh get a job.

i agree with you to a certain extent.

arrogance is dangerous as if you have it, it is very easy for someone to use against you.

further training should generally bring more humility.

"belts dont mean anything"

however this i dont really agree with, belts are just a symbol of progress within training, a simple logical grouping (when applied correctly).

what about what it means to the person themselves? what about the sense of accomplishment? what about the hours of training it represents?

sure martial arts are valuable in martial situations if you can remain calm and put your skills to use but i think you are trivializing the 'art' in martial arts.

there is far more to martial arts than beating people up.
