Me and this guy have been friends for about a while and have hung out and stuff. Yesterday at his house he said he liked hanging out with me, then he asked me out. I said yes. He says hes had a crush on me for a while now. As I was about to leave, he said "Its not that I'm ashamed of it or anything, but could you try not to spread it around that we're going out??" If hes not ashamed, then why would he care whether or not I tell anyone?? Why do you think he said that??

some guys say that because they dont like everybody to know. if everybody knows, its not so much fun anymore. plus his friends would always ask him about the relationship. they might talk him into something that he doesnt want to do or something that would make both of you feel uncomfortable. you shouldnt worry that he said that either.
people would always bombard you guys with questions too, like "Have you kissed yet?" and stuff like that. so, if i were you, i would just keep it a secret for right now. and he if told you to keep it a secret, he will probably keep it a secret too. good luck in your relationship!!!

Well it could be that he's a private person, but it just seems like an odd thing to say. Eventually people will become aware that you are dating each other. When that happens, he shouldn't be ashamed of your relationship if he sincerely cares about you. Just be careful and don't allow yourself to be disrespected.

He needs to grow up.
If he really likes you he would want to tell the world! Why would he keep it a secret?
I think you can do better than him. There is someone out there that will tell the whole world that he is in love with you. Someone who would do anything for you! Someone who would be there for you all the time! Don't settle for anything less.

Maybe he doesn't want to look like a fool in front of his friends if after your first date you dump him!
Now if you're 6 months down the road still dating him and he won't tell anyone, then you've got problems!

that is a little bit tricky to me. He's not proud of you. So how could you be with a man who is ashamed of being with you? forget him... he just want sex when he needed maybe.

maybe his friends don't care for you or something and that's why he doesn't want everyone to know. but i would kick him to the curb if he can't be seen with you then what's the point of even going out...or in...? lol

it's ok he's not ashame.but telling you not to spread it is a bit confusing.why will you spread it in the first place?tell him that no need to worry because you also want your first date to be hassle free.
