Relapsed, and now thinks she can control it and have a drink once in a while. have allready started to see the insanity start where it left off. She is also a super enabler/ Co. trying to fix our daughters alcoholism. Also takes care of a sister who refuses to quit. Obviously the enviroment she provides does nothing for her own recovery. She has the usual remorse and guilt. I know something of the disease being in recovery 16yrs. I know I cant fix her. What can I possibly suggest to her she doesnt already know...she think disipline and logic will enable her to control it..we all know thats not the case. 12 step and meetings were not her thing for the 3yrs she was clean. Any suggestions?? We were married 18yrs. And still very close.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but this is what I was told in May of '93 and it has worked for me since then:

Don't Drink, Go to Meetings, Read the Book, Get a sponsor, Do the steps, Work with others.

Take a look at page 86 of the book It shows a good way to start and end the day.

As the ex of an addict I think that you've pretty much told your self what you already know. Unless and Until she's ready to admit that she's truly powerless over her addiction she won't truly go into full recovery and some times it takes a relapse to make a person realize that. Some times it takes a couple of relapses to get a person to realize that. The only thing that you can do is make sure you maintain your sobriety and support her efforts.

In the 12 Steps don't we admit we are Powerless over Alcohol and we need to look at it Just for Today. We learn to be sober 5 minutes at a time, an hour at a time.

Nothing hurts more than seeing a fellow addict start coming again to 12 step meeting after a slip. Recovery is a lifetime journey.

For you the answer is in Step 11. I can offer no better than that except to say LGLG, and turn it over.
One other quick thought, bring this up in a meeting. I think that you will get the same, but human contact is always better than Internet.
