HDTV means that the resolution (number of dots that make up the picture) is higher than SDTV. Plasma is one technology of creating televisions. There are many different television technologies that can produce high definition, such as LCD, rear projection, and front projection..

You have asked 2 questions there.

Q: have heard all the upcoming tv shows can only be viewed on a new tv.

A: No. In 2009 analog antenna signals are turning off in favor of the Digital signals. If you have an older TV, there will be a converter box you buy to go between the Antenna and your old TV to keep it working. The government will issue coupons to help with the cost.

Q: what is the difference between a hdtv and a plasma set?

A: A Plasma TV is one type of HDTV. The other types are CRT, LCD and DLP.

Plasma is a display format, but you can also use LCD or projection or regular TV.

HDTV is high-definition TV and refers to the signal. All broadcasts are required to move to HDTV (I think in 2009) but there will be converter boxes you can get for your existing TV if it's not HDTV-enabled.

easy, some are HD, and some are plasma. ;)
Actually HD is usually referring to a really high quality LCD-looking screen, while plasma has tiny colored electrodes which each have different kinds of charges, and when they get the signal, the electrons of each color come to the front.

HD is just a format. If your tv can't show HD, then you'll only see a normal pic. The same way a 40watt bulb isn't any brighter when you put it into a three-way lamp.

i dont think hdtv is a tv. I 'think' it's a program in a tv.

My answer may be false and unreliable... sorry.--_--
