I'm a teenage girl with a very messy room. Mostly clutter, and on the floor is just all clothes. Can you help with steps to clean it up and organize it nicely? I don't know where to start! I also am really into photography, so i have tons of pictures with my friends and what not. Is there any way to neatly organize those too? I just want any suggestions at all. :)

Good question. if you have a trash can or trash bag in your room, you can start by going through all the paperwork in the room and throwing way what is old or what you don't need. next, you can unclutter all your clothes by sorting them by what is dirty and what is clean. try using maybe a hamper or even a simple laundry bag/trash bag and marking it "clean clothes", "dirty clothes". Now, since you like photography, you can make your own portfolio for your pictures and storing them according to what you like, for example "nature photos", "photos of friends", "family trips", etc... depending on what you have. once you do all that, it should be a snap to get your room in tip top shape. if you would like anymore advice, you can email me and I'll try to give more tips if possible. hope this helps.

1. Get an official laundry basket to put your dirty clothes in.
2. Sort out everything else that is on your floor (keep/don't keep).
3. Vacuum your floor to pick up any small objects you can't see.
4. Organizers come in handy- pencil boxes, bookshelves, jewelry boxes, makeup cases......
5. For all of your photos, use photo books. Label each book with different topics (friends, family, objects, places)
6. Hang up most of your clothes if you can, so you don't have to dig through your dresser drawers (everything will become unfolded and wrinkled, usually).
7. There is a difference between clean and organized- try to do both- clean your windowsill (I recommend Lysol, Clorox, etc.) and your window screen. Sometimes a dirty screen can affect how your room smells, because of breezes coming into your room.

Hope this helps!

You will feel a tremendous achievement when you have cleaned and tidyed it up. you must only look at one part at a time. First sort clothes out get a basket and put all dirty clothes in that and take it down to the washing machine . Then hang or fold clean clothes and put away . Wow you will notice a difference already. Now start on the photos maybe you could get a scrap book or album for these if not bundle them up into a box draw or bag until you have time to organise them better. Have you made the bed yet.Once that is done you could vacum. good luck . my daughter hated a messy room when I looked in her draws her knickers were folded real neatly better than mine so now She has set an example for me. My sons were messy and would hide things under the bed and tell me they had tidied up

check out organizational how to's or magazines from the local libraries. There are number of publications which have helpful hints. You can check out several and pick the ones that appeal to your sense of style. Also be sure to choose a style you can stick with. If you're the type who hates folding or hanging laundry, then find bins where you can toss clothing en mass tucked away neatly in your closet. As long as you can't see what's in the drawer with the drawer closed who says it has to be folded to perfection? Do what saves you time. It sounds like you're on the go a lot with friends and school.

Just a hint here though: If mom or dad makes the time to clean and fold your laundry for you....make a concerted effort to at least respect the work they've done in advance and put them away properly.

Step By Step Guide to Room-Cleaning:
1) Turn on some good music, turn off the computer, and give yourself LOTS of time.
2) Stand in a corner.
3) Pick up ONE thing. Put it away.
4) Keep expanding from that corner, picking up and putting away one thing at a time.
5) If the one-thing-at-a-time method doesn't work for you, then try setting goals. Think "By the end of this song, I will have ALL of the dirty socks picked up off this floor". Things go faster when you have a time limit.

Once you're done cleaning up all the stuff on the floor, then start with the photographs. Either put them in a big album OR, if you really want to get creative, put them all over your walls/door/furniture, etc.

To keep it all clean and perfect:
Don't let yourself go to bed at night until it's clean. Seriously, just pick up all the clothes and stuff before you go to sleep and you'll find it a lot easier than just letting things accumulate.

You sound exactly like my 16 year old daughter, with one difference! She wouldn't ask how to tidy her room cos she thinks it IS tidy! She's also into photography, doin an 'A' level in it at college. Maybe you could chat to each other and you could advise her that her room needs tidying! As for your photos, do they have dates on? Put them in order, buy a couple of albums and stick them in. Only do a few at a time so you don't get bored. Write neatly underneath each one with a witty comment. Do 6-8 a night then leave it. When they're done invite your friends round for pizza or something and have a laugh at your photos. Make sure your room's tidy first though!! A good incentive eh!? Good luck.

firstly, you need to reserve a time where you devote yourself to only cleaning and tidying your room, schedule this time at least once a week, for example wednesday night. Go to your local shoe store and ask them for empty shoe boxes. Stack up the bozex in your room and label each box for stuff. Get a box for every category of stuff. At the end you will still be left with a great deal of 'stuff' that just can't be categorized, put this in a separate, slightly larger box that you label miscellaneous. During the week, through everything you use in this misc box until your scheduled tidy-up time comes round. then you will devote your wendesday evening (for example) mainly to recategorize the 'misc'box into the other boxes. You can also use your dresser, closet and other storage space instead of the boxes.
The most important thing: 'Tidying up has to take place in your head first. In other words you need to sit down and look at your room and get a mental picture of the different categories you need and plan it ahead before you begin.' Once you have a system in place you will only have to deal with deviations from that system. Planning is everything, Plans are nothing (Eizenhower)

The first step is to get rid of anything that you don't need/ want anymore. Next, buy a storage system that you like to put your clothes and other things. (Shelves, plastic containers, drawers etc.) It doesn't need to be very expensive. Scrapbooks would be a good way to organize your photos, or if that is too much, use good, old fashioned photo albums.

Been there, dune that, corrected behavior. Guess what I am right back to it. This must be what makes me happy. I have seen people that must get out the vacuum cleaner right after someone steps on their clean carpet. I think they must have OCD. I might be messy but I can find anything I am looking for and I don't have to see a shrink.pp

i too am a photographer and have lots of pictures.
the way i deal with all the pictures is photo albums, scrapbooks and message boards (it has ribbon criss-crosses so you can easily slide in pictures without ruining them)

as for the clothes i straighten my bed and fold the clothes on the bed into different piles of where they go, then put them up.
if they are dirty- get a clothes hamper (dollar store-$2)

as for other clutter, throw it away or get plastic organizers.
