Compare what they say with the bible... new testament. By the way no religion is perfect by far.... the bible say's the church is the people... I attended a Nazarine church growing up which most affected my sincerity for God in the most positive manner... because of moving... i have attended baptist, assemblies of Gods, Calveries... methodist... i compare everything with the word of God.. sometimes I hear a minister say something that in my view is a little loopy... but for the most part... they've all been certainly part of my path with God. Hope this helped. ( I still have a ways to go myself).

I believe a Church that qualifies would have prophets called of God who receive revelation to help us understand God's will. There are many examples of prophets in the scriptures both before and after Christ so it seems like an appropriate pattern.

The Church of Jesus Christ as originally established by the Savior has been restored to the earth in modern times, complete with prophets and apostles. It's called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints aka the Mormon Church.

You can know with certainty by studying the doctrines sincerely, obeying those you feel are true, and praying for a witness. As James of the New Testament indicated:

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

You can also get a good indication from the "fruits" of the prophets and the members.

There are some short videos at the Church's visitor web site that can be a great help in understanding what is taught.

The only way you can truly know that is by knowing what you believe first. If someone teaches something you disagree with, you will know and you can decide whether or not you still want to be there. If the beliefs of the church line up with what you believe, then you will probably enjoy being there more. I would suggest you discuss the church doctrines with someone before you decide to join. There are churches that are truly guided by God. I get the privilege of going to one every week, thank God. Remember, people are not perfect and they often mess up. However, God is the only perfect being. While I believe a pastor and the congregation should follow God's word with all of their heart, I only look to God for guidance. Man will fail you every time, but God will not. I hope you keep that in mind as you are looking for a church home. I hope you find a good Bible based church that will help you continue to grow in the likeness of God. Don't give up and make sure you stay in the Word.

Jesus founded only one church, the Catholic church.

He gave it power and authority, and he promised to bless it and keep until the end of time.

Jesus also remains at the head of the Catholic Church, and the Holy Spirit remains as the church's guide and advocate, and the arbiter of all divine truth.

But even Jesus had his Judas, so God never promised that the members or the leadership of the church would be without corruption or sin.

In fact, a good case can be made that from the beginning, around eight to ten percent of those who claim to be faithful members of the church have really been apostate sinners, always working to destroy it.

But try to set aside all the rhetoric, and take a look at the facts.

The Catholic church has existed continuously in the world, in spite of persecution and martyrdom, and in spite of corruption and attacks, from both within and without, for the last 2000 years.

The Catholic church is the only church and sovereign nation on earth with a government that preceedes and predates all the other governments of every other country on the planet.

The church saved the world after the fall of Rome, and rebuilt western civilization in the image of heaven, and it is the basis for all morally just institutions, legislation, and statutes that are in existence in all the countries of the world, to this day.

The Catholic church converted the pagan world for Christ, a thousand years before the first protestant ever thumped a bible, and it continues to save souls, 24/7 and 365, all around the world, today.

The Catholic church has successfuly defended the complete sacred deposit of faith that was entrusted to it, handed down to us from Christ and the apostles, without corruption or error, maintaining one unified creed for one unified church, under one God appointed ruler.

The Catholic church will remain one, holy, universal, and apostolic until the end of time, simply because it belongs to God, and there is absolutely nothing any man can do to change that.

Compare this to all the others out there, and you'll quickly see that the smart money has always been on Jesus, and on the only church he ever founded, authorized, empowered, and eternally guaranteed, for the purpose of our salvation ... the Catholic church.

It doesn't get any better than that, this side of heaven.

There is no church like that. A church is a body and all the people can't do the right thing all the time. That would be Heaven!! For example, today I commited the sin of glutteny. It was wrong, and I wasn't fully guided by God. Tomorrow someone else may snap at their wife or push someone in line at Black Friday. There are many wonderful churches with many wonderful people, but they are not perfect. Just love people, be good to them, and do the best you can.

That is what we are all doing.... just the best we can........

Follow your God, not your religion. Then it doesn't really matter what church you go to, it will be mainly for fellowship. Just smile and appreciate their beliefs, being strong in your own. I don't think there is any church in the world, of any religion, which God guides fully. Perhaps at their beginnings, but not now. "For wheresoever two or three are gathered together in my name..."
I read a very funny interpretation of that. They did mental gymnastics to try to explain away the basic truth of that in a way that would make people obedient to the church. This is the problem with all religions.

1) God will never do anything that isn't in accordance with his word. So check out the teachings of the church with the Bible.
2)Pray that God's spirit will show you where you should be.
3) Open your mind to spiritual interpretations you haven't heard before, but only if they check against the Bible.

That all being said. All our righteousness is as filthy rags. Humans will make mistakes. So don't allow the other church members to cause you to loose focus on God.

If you find a church that teaches the right doctrine don't be discouraged by one or two people who are still struggling to live it.

I didn't copy and paste from anywhere, so this is a heartfelt response. Probably the longest comment I've ever made:

The Catholic church came about 3 or 4 centuries AFTER Jesus death. How could that be the original?
We want to be following what Jesus taught the FIRST century disciples to do. Which group of people today are foot-step followers of Christ and the first century apostles and disciples? Well, let's see....

Jesus told his disciples to "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them....teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you." Matt. 28:19,20
Which group of people is doing this? Reaching out globally instead of waiting for people to come to them? There's only one.

Another identifying mark is found at John 13:35 where Jesus says, "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves."
Are all these religions demonstrating this love when they're participating in war? Which group of people does not participate in war? There's only one.

In John 15:19, Jesus says his followers would be "no part of this world." Every religion takes part in politics, which is a very corrupt part of this world, except one.

Luke chapter 10 discusses how Jesus would send his disciples into the cities in pairs to preach the good news of God's Kingdom. He gave them specific instructions on how to do that. Jesus himself was constantly spreading the message of his Father's kingdom. This is in harmony with what is found at Matthew 24:14 where Jesus said, "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."
Which group of people today are completing this preaching work on a GLOBAL scale? Only one.

In Matthew 28:20 Jesus said, "I am with you until the conclusion of this system of things." Doesn't this show that he is still supporting those and guiding those who are folowing through with this work? Absolutely!

First you want to make sure they teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Secondly if they teach baptism in water, Third the Holy Spirit dwells in us. That the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three in One. That Jesus died for our sins and that he rose from the dead so we may have everlasting life with him and the Father and that by accepting him as lord and Savior we are guaranteed a home in heaven after death. You will never find the perfect church here on earth. Churches are organized by humans and we are capable of making mistakes, if these teachings are part of the church's teaching I would say you are headed in the right direction. Use your discernment and hear the voice of God in your heart, he is your best guide.

First you have to check with History. Did God Himself establish this church? If God did establish it, that's the one to follow. History says Jesus, who is God established one church. That was the Catholic Church. Check out the history books and you will find out that is the one He established and so that is the one He guides fully. Join the church. If God answers your prayers there, maybe that's the one. If it answers your questions logically then maybe it's worth following. Does its teachings make sense? Do people get to heaven through that Church? Is it an original church established by God and not only His messenger? Jesus said you are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. So I guess this is proof that the Catholic Church is the one God established and guides fully. Does the Catholic Church claim that God lives in the tabernacle? It does, so maybe God lives in the Catholic churches so He can guide us whenever we need Him. We just have to visit Him in the nearest Catholic Church and he is there not only for Catholics but for all people of good will.

Finding a good church can be challenging, I know is shouldn't be, but it sometimes is. My recommendation is finding a church that focuses on the Word of God... The Bible. If they derive their instruction and philosophies directly from the Bible you should do well. I know all Christian churches should be doing this, but believe it or not many churches use a lot of man made traditions to support their practices.
