I've never had any problem with my bushnell it was inexpensive, bought it at wal mart and been having it for about 6 yrs. now on my 270.
Oh and to barb i typed a colorful comment but thought better of it and erased it on account of kids readin it. But I think I speak for everyone here when I say we're getting sick of tree huggers coming into our business with the same comments over and over and over. If you don't agree with what we do that is your right but we sure as hell don't constantly harrass the conservation section so in return we wish ya'll would stay the hell out of the H-U-N-T-I-N-G section.

I mounted a Simmons Aetec on my brother's .270 and it's a very good scope. I've always liked Leupolds and Pentax scopes but the clarity of the Aetec seems to be about the same. It's a 2.8-10X44 and it was only about $160. It's been durable too. If I was looking for a scope under $200 this would have to be it. You could spend more but I doubt that you'd notice the difference.

Think more like $300 and get the Leupold VariX II 2-7x or 3-9x, the former if your uses are limited to deer and the latter if you're using it for a little varminting on the side. You'll never be disappointed in those, and there will be a few occasions when your $200 scope will promote a part of your vocabulary best left unused.

If you want a rifle scope for around the $200.00 price range go to the local Wal Mart and check them out . The one around here carries Tasco , Burris , Bushnell and even some Leupolds . Ask the person at the counter to check them out and check the clairity , paralax , and see if you can find a spot with less light to see if it gathers light well . I have a Tasco 3x9x40 on my 270 Remington BDL , it has served me real well for over 10 yrs and I only paid $125.00 for it brand new.
I hunt alot of mixed terrain and some shots are close up in brush so I put it on a set of Hi-rise mounts so I can use my open sights when I want .
And To the Guy who said ......."don't waste your money on a 270 ".....................Bring it on Sucker ! I'll Shoot rings around your butt any day of the week out to 1,000 yrds !
The 270 will do anything the 30.06 will and kicks less !
Can you take out a coyote from a sitting position at 435yrds with a head shot ! I Can & Have !

Don't spend too much. The expensive scope are over rated. Unless you are hunting deer from a mountin top $200 is fine - go to a gun shop and get a used one.

I HAVE 2 BUSHNELL'S AND LIKE THEM , 1 IS A 3 X 9 AND THE OTHER IS A 4 X 12 WITH A BULLET DROP COMPENSATOR . THE 3 X 9 IS ON A LOW SET OF RINGS , BUT THE 4 X 12 HAS SUCH A LARGE FRONT LENS IT REQUIRES A TALL SET OF RINGS . IF YOU HAVE A 270 FINE , BUT IF YOU BUY A RIFLE DON'T WASTE THE TIME OF DAY ON ONE . INSTEAD GET A 30 - 06 , AND DON'T SAY A 270 IS FLAT SHOOTING BECAUSE A 30 -06 WITH THE RIGHT LOAD IS EVEN FLATTER . THERE IS NO OTHER CALIBER THAT CAN MATCH THE VERSATILITY OF A 30 - 06 PERIOD , YOU HAVE ABOUT 12 LOADS FROM A 40 GRAIN ACCELERATOR TO A 250 GRAIN MOOSE LOAD AND EVERY POPULAR WEIGHT IN-BETWEEN

Go to my web site www.nealsoutdoors.com and click on Optics. Also check out the knowledge section for some information on scopes.
The best buy is KonusPro. Clear and tough, it has an etched recticle.

You can put a cheap scope on a nice gun and have a crappy hunting rifle.
You can put a good scope on a cheap rifle (with good rifling) and have a good hunting rifle.
the choice is yours...but I'd spend the money.
