A person COULD be drafted if congress decided a draft was necessary (which of course they won't). Every male who is 18 years of age or older is required to register for the draft. It won't matter if you were in ROTC or not. You might be able to avoid the draft for 4 years while you are in college going through ROTC, but once you finish college and receive a commission, you are going into the military anyways. When you register, you are assigned a "draft number", and if your number comes up, you get drafted! If for some reason you need to know what your draft number is, you can go to www.sss.gov click on the "Check a Registration" button, enter your last name, SSN, and birthdate and it will tell you what your draft number is.

America stopped drafting many years ago. Today's military is 100% voluntary. That includes the military academies and all ROTC programs. In years past (when the draft was in effect) ROTC participants were exempted from the draft. The military's logic was that it was better to wait until they had completed their schooling so that they could later serve as officers.

Eighteen year old men are still legally required to register for the draft ... in case of national emergency or a legislated policy change that re-instates the draft.

The Selective Service induction quota is currently zero, but that can change with the Congress passing a bill to raise the quota, as Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y has attempted to do.

That's right, the Democrats are the ones who tried to reinstate the draft.

Though 18 year ODs do have to sign up for selective service, there is currently no draft .

I doubt there will be any draft as the military continues to meet its recruiting goals.

And if there is ever a draft instituted again, it will probably be by the Democrats. After all they are they only ones suggesting it the past 15 years.

No, at this time there is no draft in the US. If you want to get in the military you have to volunteer. ROTC kids also do not have to volunteer and can not be drafted.

If the government wonts to reenact the draft they can. Of course ROTC would have to be eligible too. Why wouldn't they?

There is no draft in the US at present we do have to sign up for the Selective service, and at present there are no plans to enact the draft in the near future.
