I'm Native American so could that affect a DNA test?

I used www.familytreedna.com for a DNA test. They went me a kit with 2 swabs; I swabbed the inside of my cheeks, sent the kit back and in about 3 weeks I received a printed report with web access to my DNA info.
It indicates I have Filipino, Japanese and Chinese DNA, as well as Polynesian.
Have you tried the papertrail?

Do the research. The DNA test won't do you much good if your maternal lineage is all Native American, because we already know you go back to Asia. Those who advocate DNA testing over good genealogic research don't understand the limits of the test. If you're a member of a tribe, go back and check your family's records in the tribal roles. You would have the easiest of all lineages to trace because you're already in the tribal registers along with all of your forefathers.

You could have a DNA test which can be taken with a swab from your mouth. Have a look on different websites for info.

DNA would /could tell you if anyone was in the woodpile....a paper trail could not.
