My teeth are eroding. My dentist says I have holes in the back of my teeth but no cavities. I only brush my teeth when they hurt, drink an equal amount of soda and water. My enamels good, and I don't get alot of calcium. Oh and I grind my teeth at night. Can anyone help me?

Well, you need to take in more calcium, brush your teeth at least 2 x daily and floss. Cut back on the soda. Get a mouth guard to help with the grinding of teeth.

Holes will lead to cavities, so they're coming soon. You need to brush your teeth every day, preferrably twice a day, not just when they hurt or it's convenient. Soda is an excellent way to destroy your teeth, so try to cut down on that. It will be better for your insides too! Try getting more calcium too, it will also be better for your whole body in addition to strengthening your enamel further. As far as grinding your teeth, you need a nightguard. But get your teeth fixed up first, then have that made.

Two things you need to address:

1. Grinding your teeth - you need a nightguard (aka Bruxism appliance) talk to you dentist about this.

2. Quit or cut back on the soda that you drink. check out http://www.21stcenturydental.com/smith/pH_drinks.htm
This website lists most common drinks and how acidic they are - remember that neutral on the pH scale is 7 so the things you drink should be close to 7.

Acid from soda, sour candies, flavoured potato chips etc. will weaken (soften) your enamel then your grinding will erode that softened enamel more quickly. Switch to a toothpaste that protects your enamel such as ProNamel by Sensodyne or Enamel Care by Arm & Hammer, add in a fluoride rinse at bedtime and hopefully you can reduce or eliminate any further wear on your teeth.

If you absolutely have to have soda or any food with a high acid content then eat it all at once quickly - don't sip or snack on it, finish everything quickly then have a drink of water and rinse your mouth out.

The Phosphoric acid component in popular soft drinks leeches calcium from all body bones, including teeth. You must eliminate phosphoric acid-containing sodas, and switch to those without it. That's paramount. The rest, a medical doctor could probably help you out with. But immediately, cold turkey on those offending sodas is a must. Included in the list of offenders: All Pepsi family, all Coke family, Sprite, Mr. Pibb, and many others. Read labels and call manufacturers if you have any doubt.

Best of luck

first RAZZLE is an ***. i too have the same thing & in fact i've been told by a dentist plus seen the x-rays (that) ALL of my teeth are HOLLOW! i am 34 & didn't brush my teeth regularly until @ 18 n i still don't brush as much as recommended so that may have something to do with mine. but i do know that CAS1 even though i found her answer kinda rude she is right. i am a drug addict & yes meth, crystal, anhydrous whatever you'd like to call it &/or know it as, it does deteorate (sry 4 the spelling) your bones & that is what our teeth are. but meth isn't the only drug that does this cocaine & crack( which is coke but with baking soda) does so as well. however quitting don't do anything as far as repairing goes but quitting will stop the toothaches that accompany any lose of teeth.

.Brush teeth after each meal quit the sugary drinks and wear an mouth protector at night to stop your teeth grinding. There may be an underlying condition that makes you grind your teeth at night. Check with a sleep therapist. My sister used to grind her teeth. "God rest her soul" Killed in an auto accident. Her condition was brought on by drug abuse and other nervious disorders.

What do you mean holes but no cavities. Your dentist should best be able to advise you. What did he / she suggest you do?
