I think they say it more to convince themselves that their convictions are more 'true' than that of their brethren.

I think it's funny. It's a merry-go-round game with people like that. It is a religion. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be protected under the Constitution. Nor would they be able to have tax exemptions the way they do. And when they say "It's a relationship" I have to wonder... just what do they label all of their other relationships? I mean Christian is a proper title... friendship isn't, it's an abstract concept that's defined by the people within the friendship. So what do they call their friendships with each individual friend?
It's silly nonsense... but they're welcome to it. If it makes them feel better about their own religion, more power to them. ;-)

Oh, you mean the whole "Christianity is not a religion, it's a way of life," business?
They're saying this because they've been taught that a religion is something full of routine rituals that don't really mean anything personally to the people who practice them. It's usually anti-Catholic fundamentalists who say this, from what I've seen.
But they're wrong. Every religion, when practiced sincerely, is supposed to be a way of life, regardless of whether it also includes ritualized activities or not. They are just deceiving themselves about what a religion is in order to feel "special."

I've lived all of my adult life communicating using words.
The most difficult communication problems occur when two people or groups of people use the same words but have different meanings for the same word.
This happens in the world of "Christianithy" or "religion".
The English word "religion" comes from two Latin words and yes I've studied Latin.
Re which means God
and
Legis which means "law or laws"
All of the religions of the world, are man's attempt to gain acceptance by God.
Except for Christianity which is God's attemp to gain reconciliation with man.
Christianity is a relationship with God thru His only Son, Jesus, where Jesus did all the work to make the relationship work, and not our attempt to get back to Him.
The definition of religion even correctly applies to the false groups which claim to be Christian.
False cults such as JWs and Mormons and other works based denominations which claim to be Christians but really are not.

well I would ask them why they claim Christianity's numbers if they are dismissing most in these figures
that would make their branch and very small religion eh ?
I have also asked in the past , if Catholics arent Christians ... did Christians just dissapear during the centurys that Catholicism was THE only religion to preach the word of Jesus
it is all silly
you believe Jesus is your saviour .... you are Christian
it doesnt get any simpler

I am Catholic (obviously I am a Christian, but I have to answer), and I can only think that there's no limit to their foolishness. Christianity is a religion, it's a fact, they can't do anything about it.

If some say Christianity isn't a religion- it isn't.
If some say Christianity is a religion- it is.

It is one, but I have honestly never heard that claim. But I am glad that they are starting to see religion as a bad thing.
