technically it isnt a question
so yes it violates the rules
however for anyone to report prayer requests is just silly
it harms no one
they should just by pass it instead

Good question Mable! You are right! asking a question in any other site is soliciting advice! If were having trouble sleeping I could go into the Alternative Medicine and ask for a natural remedy and get free advice from Soul Dr. who is a Dr. of Homeopathy. Asking for prayer in the R.&S. site hurts no one. Non believers can pass over and not read what is offensive to them!

There is--as far as I can tell--no harm in asking for prayers. And many medical practicioners will tell us that prayer works, if in no other way it encourages a sick person to fight his or her illnesses.
I personally have no quarrel with an atheist or agnostic simply saying I wish you well. But I suspect Yahoo is trying to avoid having Answers become too much like a support group.
Mable, I would heed the valid advice presented on this post. There are ways to phrase our prayer requests so they don't result in people going ballistic.
I also agree with the person who said--in essence--reporting a prayer request is petty.
We may have differing views on religion and spirituality, but we can all be grownup enough to respect each other's views
on these matters. I happen to be a Christian who believes in prayer.
And, herein, I am submitting my prayer request that all believers and those with a glimmer of belief will join me in praying for peace, for harmony, and for enlightenment. I pray the sinners (like me) will find forgiveness. I pray God will protect all, including those who reject Him. These things I ask in the name of his Son.
Amen.

technically it's a violation, as others have stated. many here are somewhat uptight due to the report trolls... personally, i don't care, "pray requests" go with the topic of this section to a great many people, so i ignore it; but, it would be better to ask for advice rather than ask for prayer, that fits in the Q&A format, and those inclined to prayer will get the hint.

You can't really ask for a reasonable response from R&S can you?
I have gotten Violations on this section for answering a question with a "Yes" or "No", I don't even bother contacting them anymore, they just answer you with a stupid automatic message like "read the guidelines", they don't seem to realize that there are idiots who report questions for no reason.

You have a valid point. Since prayers have an absolute value of zero (they aren't worth anything), you're not asking for anything. Where's the solicitation?

It's not.It is proof that there is no neutrality in any culture.Ours chose to reject God,and the rotten fruits of that collective decision is rearing its' ugly head everywhere.Secular Humanism replaced God in Western Culture about 40 years ago.

I don't care about that part! but what I really find disgusting is when I say I don't pray but wish you well and you are in my thoughts! and suddenly a storm of nasty emails and thumbs down appear! I get criticized about not being able to pray!
so no matter what I do it is never Good enough for Christians! never - that is sort of a turn off!

i've seen worse 'reportable' stuff accepted as routine, such as obscene insults, rants that didn't even remotely resemble a question; however, requests for prayers are not PC and offend the overly sensitive, so they get almost universally reported...
