Yes go to a vet, the offending cat may have been ill, and why take a chance with infection. If the skin with the hair follicles was ripped away it may never grow over, as there will be scar tissue. Your best bet at a good healing outcome is to have a vet check him out for you.

You can cleanse the ear ONE TIME with hydrogen peroxide. Do not use it more than once as it can be very damaging to injured tissue and make it hard to heal.
Then you need to watch it for signs of infection. In the event that it gets swollen and shows pus then your only recourse will be antibiotics from the vet.

Of course you should take him to the vet. Especially if he isn't up to date on all of his shots. It will heal but will probably never look purr-fect. I've seen lots of cats with scarring on their ears. Until you bring him to the vet you might want to put some Polysporin on the cut.

Your family won't "let you"? Perhaps they should understand that not taking care of an injured pet is ANIMAL ABUSE and a crime. Take the cat to the vet and see if they'll allow you to make payments on it. Or better yet - take your parents credit card with you. Jerks.
Was this cat in a fight outdoors? If so please keep your cat INDOORS where it's safe - http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=indoorsoroutdoors

I used to have a great big black cat, and he had scars on his ears that showed he had been in fights before I got him.
It depends really on how bad the wound is. If it worries you, you can take your kitty to the vet. Otherwise, just let him take care of it unless it tries to abscess.
Good luck!

if ur cat is badly hurt i recomend that you should clean his ear
and make sure there is no bacteria or germs. i myself love catz i adore them dearly!! but if u feel really concerned you shud take it to the vet. but my cat got into lotz ov fites and i didnt see his leg untill it healed ,so my answer is: just let ur cat take care of himself for the time being.
