My husband is not fond of alcohol because he hates the taste, but i'm planning something special for christmas and some alcohol would go along nice with it. i want to get a champagne, but i know nothing about the tastes of champagnes as i've only had it once years ago. I'd like something sweet or fruity or something, without having that strong alcohol taste. i'm not a big fan of alcohol either, but you kinda do need it to get a buzz. I'm looking for something not too expensive, like under 30 bucks. thanks!

Gancia Asti Spumante is wonderful. Its sweet, a bit crisp, great for dessert, coctails, great with fruit. The other is Martini and Rossi Asti, also great. If you want a nice not too dry Asti, I reccomend Frexinet, Cordon *****. All are well within your price range, and you could easily get 2 bottles for under 30 dollars.

Hi
the word champagne can only be used on bottles of wine produced in the champagne region of France. Anywhere else it should be labelled as sparkling wine. Look for words suchs as: BRUT (very dry) or demi sec (slightly sweet).
You can get wines from California for very little money. An alternative is Asti Spumonti an Italian version. Asti is sweet and used as a dessert wine.

A popular custom is to take the wine in a flute and drop a sugar cube into it. You could place a drop of bitters on the suger cube just before you drop it into the flute. This will col,or the wine.

YOU MUST serve sparkling wines in a flute. You can buy glasess at a department store. Look for tall, reedy glasses. The reasons for this is to keep the bubbles pouring up and out of the top. (tickling your nose bubbles).

Hold the glass by the stem as you drink. The warmth of you hand warms the wine and slows down the bubbles.

If you don't want an alchol taste, put out a small plate of sliced fruit. Choose fruits and remove skins, use: sliced strawberries, small pieces of cantaloupe, or plump blueberries or even small triangles of watermelon.

The fruits jiuces will clear your tongue and makes an excellent digestive. DON'T use any heavy cream or toppings on the fruit.

Enjoy the taste sensation of fresh fruit and sparkling, white wine or champagne. It is a real treat.

well just make sure you don't get 'extra brut', maybe try a pink or red champagne, but if you at least get a 'brut' it will be better. my favorite champagne is from maui so i won't recommend it!
