My computer came with Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 SP2. Shortly after getting my computer, I purchased Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade thinking it would improve my computer in all aspects. As you can probably guess it had quite the opposite affect. Can anyone help me as to how i can completely reformat my computer, with use of a recovery disc if needed, so I can get back to the XP that originally came with the computer. Thanks, Chris.

Just put in the recovery disks and start the install. No need to uninstall anything as the recovery disks will just overwrite Vista.

Your computer should have come with either an official of Windows XP CD or a Recovery (or Restore) disc that has the XP install on it. Put that CD into your PC and reboot it. It should start the Windows install.

The install should offer you an option to repartition and reformat the hard drive. You will want to do both to completely remove Visa. Just formatting may not remove some of the boot files.

Then simple let it complete the Windows install and you should be good to go.

Remember that doing this will wipe all the files on your PC, so be sure to backup and data (music, pictures, vids, documents, etc) you have first. And be sure you have the CDs or downloads needed to reinstall any programs you will need.

Back up your work, be sure that you have all your devices drivers and all sofware ready, and reboot using the XP CD. Windows systematically format your HDD/partition before installing, so Vista will be gone as soon as your installation begins.
To boot from CD, you have to access your CMOS settings and tell your computer to look for OS in the CD Rom drive instead of the HDD.
1. restart your computer
2. press the "del" key repeatedly before windows starts (Some computers use the F2 key; see which one works)
3. The CMOS page will appear on the screen. it looks really different from windows so you'll know.
4. go to the "boot" section and choose your CD rom drive as the first drive to boot from.
5. insert your XP CD in your Rom drive, and then press F10 and Enter to save changes and restart.
6. Your computer might ask you to "press any key to boot from CD"; do it quick.
7. windows will install. follow instructions.
8. don't forget to go back to CMOS and undo the changes you've made once you're done with the installation.

Use the recovery CD that came with your laptop.

Insert the CD and reboot the computer.

You should reformat the HDD before reinstalling XP... the restore CD should ask if you want to do this.

you need a windows disk, to format (wipe clean) and a windows xp disk to install, you have to get sound drivers yourself.
