I purchased a vizsla puppy with papers in May 2006 for my father. The breeder I got him from was in Houston, and is no longer reachable with the numbers and address that I had. I have had him back for 6 months now, do to a serious medical condition my father has been placed in hospice and can no longer care for him. I have tried to find the papers but have had no luck and my father can not help with this due to his illness. But "Rusty" my male is the most beautiful Vizsla, he has perfect muscle mass, coat color and condition and has a clean bill of health from the vet, including negative results for hip dysplasia, he has had skin scrapes to check for sebaceous adenitis, and that was also negative.
So my husband and I are really interested in breeding him even though we don't have his papers and don't remember the breedline name for the AKC to search for it. So I am looking for someone in Texas that is interested in our boy, all that we are asking is for is the pick of the litter.

If you remember what the first word in the dog's registered name is you can go here to find his registration number.
http://www.akc.org/store/free/
Then;
You can download a Request For A Duplicate Registration Certificate from the AKC website. You will need to go to the following address - http://www.akc.org/pdfs/masterform.cfm.

It sounds like you have a very nice dog and I'm sorry to hear about your father. First of all, it is the owner's of the b***h that go to seek out an appropriate stud, not stud owners looking for a b***h to breed. Your dog is not regestered or been shown, so it is highly unlikely that you will find someone willing to do this. I do understand you wanting a nice pup out of your boy, but what will happen to the other pups in that litter? Will they go to good homes or end up in shelters as so many do? It is the owner of the dam that has the right to give away or sell the pups. If you, yourself cannot reach your own breeder, he was irresponsible, as well. May I suggest that you have your boy nuetered and than purchase another pup from a reputable breeder. One that you will be able to have as a mentor or it's entire life. I wish you well, and hope you do the right thing.

This is just another BYB question. I am SURE your dog is beautiful, and so was mine, but I didn't breed her because it wouldn't be RESPONSIBLE since I am not a trained breeder.
Think about this. Every pure bred is bred to produce specimen pups. Each of those pups are meant to be perfect examples of the breed.
Think about this: If the Vizsla's mother had 3 litters of 6 pups each, and 3 of those pups were perfect examples, like yours, then that would leave 9 perfect specimens. If, lets say, 4 of those were female, and bred the same way, with the same statistics (4 perfect females), that leaves 16 perfect female pups, who in turn were bred again, leaving 64 females, and so on and so on.
Overall, just leave it to the people who have spent years under a mentor learning how to safely bred animals. Spay your dog and enjoy the time you have with her :)

The healthiest dog in the world can still be totally unsuitable for breeding. Unless he's AKC registered and been championed in the AKC show ring, he's still worthless as a stud. There are plenty of worthy champions to breed, just because YOU think your dog is 'pretty' doesn't mean that anyone else will. I'm sorry, but I think you should get him fixed. There are plenty of dogs in this world already, why would you be so irresponsible as to bring substandard puppies into this world? Your dog will be much healthier if you just neuter him and enjoy him as a pet and not a breeding machine.

You can apply for duplicate papers from the AKC. If your father's name is on the papers, he would need to sign the forms for it. I am assuming that this pup was born in March of 2006, so he is not old enough to OFA certify yet. What did the x-rays of his hips look like? Did the vet even x-ray or did he palpate? I would find a good breeder by you and ask all of these questions. You should not be thinking of breeding this boy right now. Find a good mentor and learn from them.

He's too young to breed yet. he needs to be at least 2 to undergo the genetic testing to see if he really is breeding quality.
In the meantime when you are showing your boy look out for other Vizsla owners who maybe looking to breed their girls. Having such a fine specimin you want want to be breeding him to just any dog. Of course they will feel the same.
Sorry I just re-read your question and see he is not registered so not of show quality so unfortunetly no responsible breeder will want to breed with him so it's best to get him neutered.

Don't take a pup- anyone willing to use a stud without papers has a questionable quality female and I would be wary of health problems

Do to lack of papers, most people aren't really going to be interested in breeding to your boy when it is easy enough to find a registered stud.
