I have a 1984 Dodge D150 shortbed pickup with a 318/2 bbl. and the stock factory 4 speed trans (A833????) and a 3.23 rear end ...will one of the newer 4 speed automatic overdrive transmissions bolt in easily (or at all)? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tom

The bell housing will probably bolt up,the cross member will have to be, fabricated because the automatic is longer than the manual. so the drive shaft will have to be cut as well. you will have to change the linkage.depending on wether you want the shifter on the colum or the floor. This is a process changing from an automatic to a manual I could go on and on. you will have to change the radiator, fly wheel,etc....Hope this helps Good Luck

I have an '82 D-150 with the 3 speed long cone. I looked at the 4 speed over drive automatics, but the cost and changes were not worth it. The A833 can be swapped for 3 speed long cone with no changes or mods, except for removing clutch linkage and changing steering column to accommodate shift linkage.. If you are tired of shifting, go with the 3 speed.

yes they will bolt up and work but you need a power supply to activate the over dive and lock up converter, you also will have to change the mount and modify the cross member, and possibly the drive shaft also, you need to get a manual on this one because there's a lot of changing to do including the steering column,at this point id get a manual before i started buying parts, its a lot of work, just about everything has to be changed on it,good luck.,,PS i have did one of these before, and it was more work than it was worth,or the truck was worth.

You can probably make it fit but the newer trans. will need the power train controller from the newer truck also to make the trans. work. Installing the controller into you're truck would be a nightmare.
