Simple, measure out the mix using a measuring cup and divide by two. Put the remaining mix into a zip lock bag. Don't forget to put the directions on the box with the leftover mix!

Dividing it a trying to halve the rest of the ingredients is going to be "iffy" in this case, as the food scientists that produce these prepackaged cake mixes have, in fact got this "down to a science"........I would make the entire batter, and then make your 12 cupcakes and pour the rest into a cake pan and bake it as you normally would (the cupcakes will be done first, though) Once the cake is done, let it cool and then wrap it in foil and freeze it.......If you only want the 12 cupcakes, make the entire batter, fill your 12 cupcake liners and toss the rest of the batter..........Good luck and Enjoy!!!

The easiest thing to do would be to make the whole batter. It would be harder to divide the recipe. Use what you need, you can give away the extra dz. cupcakes.
