While their occurance is rare, it is a myth that a male calico cat is worth anything. He cannot be used for breeding as he is sterile. (two x and one y chomosomes)

No, he's not. Some cat lovers think they're neat, but they're not worth anything. They're not purebreds and they can't reproduce. Also, it's probably he's not a true calico- just having 3 colors doesn't make a true calico. A true calico has large distinctive patches of red, white, and black with NO intermingling of the colors- if the colors are mixed together in any way, he's a tortoise-shell which isn't uncommon at all. Also, a dilute calico isn't the same genetics (dilutes are white, peach, and gray). If the darker patches have tabby striping on them, he's a tabby calico, and again, not rare.
So in conclusion, even if you do have a true male calico... there's nothing that can be done with him except for him to be a pet, so if you're trying to get a high price for him, you'd be running a scam. If you don't want to keep him, find him a loving home. Either way, please neuter him, because only the true calico males are sterile, and any of the other ones will start mass-producing more homeless kittens!

They are rare but I don't know if that means valuable - that kitten needs to see a vet soon - if he has a clean bill of health he may be worth something but my vet told me that most male calico's are sterile and are prone to many medical conditions...
Hm.. in the last few weeks I've seen all kinds of people on here saying they had a male calico so it's starting to look like it's not all that uncommon anymore

Many people think that a calico cat is a breed, it's not, a calico is just another coat pattern. Basically it is a tortoiseshell cat (Tortie) with white patching. Generally the more white the cat has, the larger & more defined the patches of colour will be.
While male torties may be unusual, they are not valuable. The majority of them are sterile, and even if one is fertile, selling him as a breeding cat would be futile. Male torties make great pets, but they are no more valuable than cats of other colours

The myth they're worth big money comes from Barnum & Baily circus, they hyped they'd pay big money for one, but they never followed through on it.
No, they're just a regular cat who happens to have a coat pattern that's not commonly known in male cats. The genes for calico and tortoishell (and ginger) is sex linked, so most cats are a certain gender that have these.

Probably not much. Male calico cats are very rare and most often sterile. There are a very very few non-sterile male calico cats and this might be somewhat valuable if it can breed.
Calico is not a breed, but a description of colors. Mostly white with patches of orange and black.

THe only way for a cat to be male & calico (assuming there is not a mistake on one of those designations) is for it to be XXY - a gene mishap similar to downs syndrome. Such a cat would be infertile - so you MIGHT find a pet owner willing to pay $$$ for the novilty, but don't expect him to be worth a fortune for breeding!
