Some people become depressed, by a situation that has occurred, the death of a loved one, change in job or a major move. Other people suffer with a depression that is biological, being passed down from a family member. You can't just snap out of it nor can you pull up your socks and just be happy again but it is possible to feel depressed one moment and fine the next and that's called fast cycling depression which is often times linked to bipolar depression. My suggestion is that you keep a daily diary on how your feeling and just monitor it for a few weeks. If your finding it to be a problem in your life affecting your daily activities then try talking to a councilor, or even your GP. Best wishes

Depression is sometimes masked by what seems to be "normal" behavior. In other words, to others you come off happy and cheerful, when inside you feel miserable. Many factors play a role: hormones, events at school where you were embarrassed or made to feel like an idiot, lack of sleep, or home life tensions.

There are several things that are clearly signs of depression.

1. Do you enjoy any thing at all. Are you enjoying life?
2. Have you lost or gained weight?
3. Are you sleeping at night?
4. Are you getting your usual "chores" done, or does the idea of even taking a shower sound like too much work?
5. Have you had any thoughts of suicide as an option to ending your problems?
6. Is your hygiene getting bad because you just don't care?

And the list continues.

I have chronic depression which is in remission because I'm on 2 different anti-depressants. What made me this way? I have no idea, except that I remember being very angry at everything when I was about 16. I was prone to periods of deep sadness. I cried over every little thing. I never thought I was a useful or good person.

After some psychotherapy and meds that has all changed. I can handle any thing now, and there is always a tiny light at the end of my "tunnel."

Well depression does not effect everyone the same way, it is possible that something dramatic could happen and send a happy child into depression. It is possible to be okay one minute and then fall into depression the next. Depression is very hard for the the person and the people around them. It is a very good idea to go talk to someone and see how they can help.

The depression that my friend faced was based upon her thinking that no one cared about her. Loneliness and feeling betrayed can also be cases of depression. Other thing can cause depression but I'm not an expert in that field. I'm sure that anxiety can make your mood go up and down but I don't think that it's as serious as it can be.

Hormones can effect depression. Especially females (you don't say if you are male or female). Severe depression usually doesn't come and go quite like that. But if it continues I would certainly seek some help.

my best guess is that where you live. there's not that much sun that often. if a human body does not get sun (like if its raining for afew days) than you feel sad and drained. when the sun comes out you feel happy again. could that be it?
