No...the stark differences are too vast to be compatible. If it were just the Koran being used as a guide MAYBE.
But with all the Haditha and exigent commentary its near impossible.
Tho I am always open to discussion.

it all comes down to how you define democracy! i mean there is a limit to even the demands of the public -- there really is NO such thing as an ideal democracy! there cant exist any such thing-- or the people would just do whatever they want and how they want -- a total chaos!
as far as democracy and sharia are concerned.. yes! i mean islam actually advocates democracy! most of the people say that islam and democracy are two different things - but they are wrong.. ignorant!
islam advocates shura - a legislative council where people make laws and make decisions! that's what we usually call democracy!
the problem is that sharia laws are generally exploited to achieve devious aims by certain people! that should be stopped and not the sharia! the sharia is a perfect code of life that defines the way of life...

As we all know most people are biased losers.
Democracy originated from the Quran which means sharia is the backbone of our democracy.
Jefferson recieved most of his democratic views from the Quran.
Democracy is not an original thought of Washington or Adams, it is from the Muslims.
Muslims had freedom of speech, freedom of tavel, freedom of relegion(they alloed the jews and christians to live amongst them), they had equality of blacks, whictes and everyone else just watcht THE MESSAGE, they had capital puishment for murder before you did, they allowed women to have more rights than American women, the Prophet's wife led her own army.
Sharia is totally compatible with democracy since it is the origins of democracy, its not like the founding fathers had a revelation all of a sudden to have a democracy, and it is not democracy here when there were slaves 70 years after independence.

Democracy and Sharia Law are two different things. One is a government ruling system while the other is a law for the public.

Sharia is laws set by allah SWT who created us... therefore knows better than we do...
democracy we made... its like taking your car to the dealer or to your local garage... the manufacturer of the car will obiously fix it better... therefore we should follow the rules set down by our creator...
answering the question... there is no democracy in the world now anyway...

In democracy every rule & law can be changed & even reversed at any time with numerical majority vote in houses of democratically elected governments. It cal legalise murder (as American parliament & senate did so for Bush to murder Iraqi & afghan people & protect worst oppressors on Palestinians i.e., the Israel). Democracy cal legalise lesbianism, homosexuality & adultary as Indian parliament & Rajya Sabha has done so by making inter religious marriage act , ahighly immoral act indeed. In india if a girl of anybody runs away with a bad boy of even worst character , her parents or close relatives cannot do anything according to so called democratic law. All highly draconian purely dictatorial inhuman acts like NSA, MCCOCA , PSA, DBA are all 100% inhuman under the cover of democracy. If the govt. hoses of representatives are all fascists , any fascist law can be passed. There is no prescribed standard qualification to contest election in such so called democratic countries under democratic setup. In India persons having done 100 murders, having huge illegal properties through corruption, being rapists & running brothels are people's representatives. In Shariat Law , all Laws of allah & Rasool(Prophet(pbuh)) which are ABSOLUTE are implemented by the caliph(Khalifa) elected DIRECTLY by all people of purely good characters only. All laws are implemented by cosensus & not by numerical majority. The caliph makes a Majlise Shoora, a group of people to work for various fields. Nobody has any right to reverse Shariat Law by voting. All new laws for new problems too say telecommunication , IT or cloning for example must be framed in consonance with Shariat Law through Ijtihaad done by eminent religious scholars & clerics of highest learning & best character. After that it is accepted by shoora with consensus & at the end passed by the caliph. Some procedures of democracy matches with Shariat Law but not all. Non Muslims get best protection in Shariat based governments as Islam prohibits harassing innocent non Muslims too & guarantees full protection. Sex free western cultre based laws can't be allowed as it is unIslamic.

As it currently stands - NO!!!
But with some modifications - such as letting the Democratic society deal with the "Penalties" (aka Punishments) - it CAN work hand-in-hand with democracy...
The ritualistic sections ALREADY function with NO difficulty - it is only things such as "theft is punished by imprisonment or amputation of hands or feet" or "stoning to death is the penalty for married men and women who commit adultery" (both taken from the link below) that are incompatible ;););)

Muslims believe in one, unique, incomparable, and singular God, whose name in Arabic is "Allaah", literally meaning "The God"; in the angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in God's complete authority over human destiny, and in life after death.
Muslims believe in a chain of prophets (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them all) starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist and Jesus, peace be upon them.
God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up, synopsis, and perfection of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad , peace be upon him, the last prophet, through the angel Gabriel.
