1979 Iran becomes The Islamic Republic of Iran and quickly begins funding terrorism (Hezzbollah and Hamas) in the Middle East.

9/80 - 8/88 Iran and Iraq are at war. Ends in a stalemate. The US aids Saddam because "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

Iraq invades Kuwait on 9/23/90.

Got their butts kicked by a UN sanctioned expulsion.

Signed Cease Fire Agreements.

Failed to comply with all agreements.

Was further sanctioned by The UN Security Council. The term "serious consequence" was used in many. This phrase means military action.

All this time the US bore the expense of keeping Saddam contained.

9/11/2001 occurs. The US invades Afghanistan. Later NATO Forces join that action. Iran now has NATO to it's east. With the change in fighting terrorism the US takes the legal route to pen in Iran.

The US Congress approves the invasion of Iraq.

The US chooses to enforce UN Sanctions and invades Iraq after giving Saddam a chance to leave voluntarily. In a short time that mission is accomplished with the fall of Saddam's government. Iran now has NATO to it's east and west. The real problem is now surrounded.

Iran speaks loudly as they have no stick. They owe Russia a pile of money so Mr Putin cannot be overly happy. They owe China a pile of money so they cannot be happy either.

The Chess game continues with Iran currently in CHECK.

The target is Iran, always has been. When choosing military targets you choose the easy win. May not seem easy, but actually is much easier and does not involve direct conflict with Russia and China.

Congress approved the military operations in Iraq simply because it has been going on for longer than 60 days.

The President can have 60 days of unchecked military action before the US congress has to approve more time.

It is not an officially declared war, that only happens when we go to war with another government. The Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein was toppled too fast for a declaration of war to take place.

If congress wanted to it could simply not approve funding for military operations in Iraq.

No, it's not a declared war. Congress authorized the president to take military action. The bill was called the "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002" and passed 296-133 in the House and 77-23 in the Senate.

Congress overwhelmingly approved W's proposals before the Iraq II Invasion. It was not a declared war, like Iraq One. His proposals were built upon his predecessor's recommendations along with the former white house staff & congress' previous decisions. Bush I invaded Iraq to expel them from Kuwait. The peace treaty that ended the war gives answers to why Pres Clinton and Pres Bush II took the needed actions they did over time after the war. Saddam Hussein purposefully tricked us into believing he had WMD so the Iranians would be scared of him. Had he proven his peace full intent, then he would have been left there to keep Iran at bay. But he tried to act like a tough guy and got his shorts kicked. He was clever enough to trick us into believing he had WMD, we had to bomb him rather than risk his bombing Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel, or worse. This war isn't over Osama Bin Dumbhead, but the attacks on 9-11 brought this nation beyond the threashold of tolerance to the likes of Saddam. President Bush did what any true red blooded American should have done. Was his execution of the war flawless? Far from it. He has made a series of grave errors in the years since March of 03. But if the year was 2000 and I had to vote all over again, I would vote for him with even more confidance than I did before. Nobody running in 2000 would have done it better. I will always compare George W Bush to Theodore Roosevelt. In another time, I would expect to see these two hanging out together telling old war stories over a good draft beer. Viva Bush!

Only Congress can declare war. There has not been a declare war since 1941. Korea....Vietnam....Grenada.....Persian Gulf.....Iraq...... were ALL authorized by Congress..... they are "police actions"
Iraq is the first "justified' war in over 60 years. We went there for legitimate valid reasons.....the security of America was at take..... million of American lives were and still are at stake.

we've not declared warfare because WW2. yet we've sent troops to kill and be killed all over the globe. Lebanon, two times, Panama, Iraq, two times, Granada, El Salvador, Guatamala, Afghanistan, Bosnia/Serbia, Korea, Viet Nam, Haiti, Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos, Somalia, and in all likelihood a dozen greater we don't comprehend approximately. it form of sounds like a determination is all that's needed now and that's widespread as terrorism would not have a united states of america. You do comprehend that a announcement of warfare desires yet another congressional bill to end it. in any different case, we would nonetheless be at warfare with Japan and Germany, formally.

we went to war without congressional approval, but congress approved the "war on terror" a few months afterwards. so yes, we are in a declared war that congress did approve.
some people will say no because we declared war on "terror" and not a specific country. but fighting terrorism and terrorists in various countries does still count as a war.
