You definately need to work through your police department and not take any "personal" actions against your neighbor. Keep filing reports as a means to keep legal data.
Do carry with you either Direct Stop (citronella) or Dog Shield (pepper spray) with you -
Know your animal ordinance in your town -
Ask animal control if or what requirements they need to follow - this incident would require that the other dog be only out in public on a full basket muzzle and body harness and contained behind a well installed fence with padlock.
Be sure to have your dog on leash

It seems the owner and their dog are to blame here and action needs to be taken against both:
1. The owner needs to learn how to control his dog and socialise it with others.
2. From this training the dog needs to learn the correct behaviour.
If the police can't help you - perhaps dog control, RSPCA (that is what they are called in Australia - so something similar where you are) can intervene and help you out, if you make a complaint about a nuisance dog.
Other than that, if you are out with your dog, keep away from the neighbour and his dog, cross the street, walk down the different side of the yard.
I don't know if you have seen Cesar Milan's "the dog whisperer" show, he rehabilitates the owner, as dog's usually act/react to the actions of the owner, thus this is why the owner needs to be trained and then the dog will then soon follow suit.
Good luck

sue the owners, for being irresponsible dog owners. and since u have filed police reports, the courts will take it seriously, and then the owner will have to take action. Also, go to the hospital, if u had to go, and get the drs. report, and take it to court with you. That will tell the judge that you have been bodily injured by that dog. ( i myself, would go over and kick the crap outta the dog and show him who is boss, but that is just me, do not try that at home!!!) Then go on to say that you have been attacked and so has yer kid, by that dog, and make sure the owner knows it is a dangerous dog. U may get lucky and the judge tells the owner to put down the dog. good luck!

File a small claims court case by going to your local courthouse and ask for the papers. It usually costs about $30. Make sure you save all of your medical bills and papers that go along with this issue. Continue to call the police and file every time there is any sort of incident whatsoever. Even if you just see the dog out and unattended, call the police. Continue to do it and save all of the paperwork. Every time you speak to the cops ask them why they are not taking the dog away because it is a danger to the neighborhood.

You did correct in contacting police, next you need Dog Humane Services to be notifed, they will send a warning or a sitation, get those paper work and sue... went to court on this matter before. Take medical/vet bills with you to court. Let them know what has been done, and what hasn't to restrain the dog from attacking. My dogs owner had to either give it away/euthanize it, or build a fence. They opted to build a fence and pay my bills. My little dog didn't survive, but I got satisfaction in knowing i did something for it. Just go to small claims and file a complaint, bring pics of the area to show lack of leash, cage.fence, what ever could help in retsraining the dog to one certian area,

i would stay away from him! talk to the animal control in your area and carry a can of pepper spray. I love dogs, but agressive ones i could do without. talk to the owners, and continue to file police reports.
what size is the dog, because if the dog is a large dog, i would take more caution then a little dog. Good luck!

If his dog harms your dog to an extent he needs medical attention, you can sue them for the funds you need to help your dog. And since you've filed two police reports, and they obviously aren't doing anything, it'll look like neglect to protect your rights as a dog owner and citizen. And if you want to get even more money from them, after the dog bills, cry emotional trauma and sue for even more. Good luck =]

1. Sue the owners.
2. If you don't want to, talk to the owner.
3. Get a fence.
4. Arm yourself.
5. Get a more vicious dog.
6. Get protective clothing if you get hurt alot.
7. Move to a different house!
Hope this helps.

You need to contact your animal control office and police department to find out what legal action you can take. You might want to post this in the legal section on here and they could help get you some more answers or tell you where would be a good place to start. Good Luck.

Tell the owner he needs to better discipline his dog. If he doesn't then it's completely out of your hands and your free to ,for example, call the ASPCA or an animal shelter, who can take better care of the dog, until it can be returned to the owner once he is capable of taking responsibility for him or can be given to someone who can.
