Religious Delusions are the hardest thing to challenge - because it is the basis of accepted religious faith amongst millions. Its important to distinguish whether the delusions may provoke high risk behaviours. Look for how it varies, whether she feels 'commanded' to do certain things, whether she is neglecting herself i'e hygiene, nutrition, etc, whether she appears 'distracted' when you are in converstion with her (as if someone else is sharing the conversation) - or whether she 'reports' hearing God - but otherwise acts 'normal'. Even if this is psychosis, it will be difficult for you to help her if she resists your help. Many people become psychotic but only get the help they need when it deteriorates to the stage where the statutory services can invoke mental health law. This is deemed to be when it becomes apparent that they present a serious risk to themselves or others.

Try to understand where these ideas are coming from. If she has no violent thoughts and no distress and is not going to harm herself or others don't take her to a psychiatrist to numb her brain with tablets. Find out more about her ideas and why she thinks she and her friends have escaped hell. Try to be interested, delve into her ideas and give them some credit and don't just dismiss them as madness. You won't lose your sanity through listening to her and not arguing with her ideas. I was hearing voices from God and having exciting inner experiences and incredible feelings of joy. I would have got out of it without tablets if someone would have tried to understand me but the psychiatrists gave me tablets which numbed all feelings and creativity. I felt a big part of me had died.

I had a schizophrenic friend also who thought he was in telepathic communication with the CIA and was Paul Weller from the Jam. He was not violent to anyone or himself and harmless. He was happy with his exciting inner world yet the psychiatrists wanted to destroy this and take it away from him.

For insomnia try the white part of lettuce - it is a natural sedative or try natrasleep or kalms tablets.

She really needs to see a shrink and check a diagnosis for schizophrenia. There may be medication for her. Hearing voices is very concerning, she needs to get this checked out.

Although she may just be normal, often people who have religious experiences simply have overactive temporal lobes, which is the part of the brain responsible for such experiences, once you've identified this, it's fine, enjoy the magic!

Encourage her to see a doctor. You can't cure her, she needs medication and probably therapy, too.

According to a pamphlet, "God is talking to all of us, we just have to listen".

Why don't they give you a tape intead of a pamphlet?

Has your friend got a tape?
