I like to think that one mans trash is another mans treasure. While I don't go digging through dumpsters, I've made my boyfriend stop (much to his embarrassment) if I see something (furniture, ect...) beside a dumpster that may be useful to me.

My cat diggs through the garbage at home and pulls the lids off and drags garbage around the kitchen.

Yesterday, I caught my son who is 3 digging through the garbage. I was speechless and just took him to wash up and play in his room. Is this just one of weird things kids do or did he learn it from me or is it most likley the cat? What can I do so he doesn't do it again? I've found some pretty neat stuff next to dumpters that I have fixed up and if I wait until he is not with me it may be too late and whatever it is will be gone.

Its totally normal. My 1 1/2 brother does the same thing. He LOVES to get into everything. Its intersting to babies. Try and keep it out of his reach. Or watch over him more carefully so he cant get into the trash, or even better, get one of those toddler gaurds.

Kids are just being curious. I think it's good that he's with you when you do that. I mean, maybe don't go overboard, but it can teach him to be thrifty and not to go out and buy everything new when used items can be just as good sometimes. I don't think that harms him at all to be with you when you do that. I live in a condo complex and I've gotten some good stuff by the same way! I think, also, that your son seeing you do that teaches him not to be an elitist or think he's too good for used stuff.

It's a notmal kid thing. They're into everything and anything at that age, so whatever they can get their hands on is explored to a great extent!

be careful and watch him if he goes near the bin because of sharp things that may be in there that can cause harm, also the germs will not do much good to his health.

good luck!

It's just one of the weird things kids do...my 3 year old went into the bathroom bin tonight....they know it's dirty at their age, but sometimes just being 3 and not really caring, takes over.

I doubt you or the cat had anything to do with this, but then, you never know!

I think they are just curious at that age...and like to do things they have been told not to.
