My husband is in Iraq... half my family hates me, the other half thinks I'm worthless except that I have a husband (despite that I'm a pre-med student and doing well)... so I'm home all by myself. Feels like I'm the only one, so I'm going to ask--

Is anyone else alone on this "holiday"? If so, why?

I am alone at this time but i went to my mothers house and had dinner with all my family.I also brought along a friend of mine. You should call a friend and maybe have a drink or something.Happy thanksgiving and remember that several people do love you.

Yes I am alone. My family cancelled thanksgiving due to a new baby arriving yesterday. It's fine, I don't care for the whole family dynamic anyway. I got married in Sweden in October but won't immigrate until next year so my husband and I are apart.

I was fine. I made a small dinner, but once the kitchen was cleaned I was sort of at a loss. what now?

For once, I'm not alone. I'm going to eat with friends.
But last year I was alone for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It wasn't so bad. My daughter had moved out under extremely unpleasant circumstances. And I had spent so much time trying to keep her out of trouble during her adolescence, that I didn't have much social life. And I have no other family nearby, so....
I was kind of glad to have peace and quiet actually. I can go see people and bring them presents on Christmas. For the first time in years, I don't feel holiday pressure. I guess I'm still in transition after raising my daughter.

Yes, Hon, I am and it's okay. I just fed the neighbor's cats and filled the bird feeder. It's so quiet today... which is nice, but cold. And if your family hates you... then they own the problem , don't they? I'm not with my family because they talk about each other all year long, but on holidays they try to be the perfect, loving people.... which they are not. So, I find it better to be alone. Be very proud of yourself and your husband... there are brighter days ahead for both of you!

Yes, me. I have no one near where I live and no friends (most of my friends are in other states and we talk online) but I do have my little dog and a cat and nice neighbors so it isn't too bad. Last year I was invited to someone's house but they didn't invite me this year so I just stayed home.
Since my Mom passed away a few years ago I spend all the holidays alone.

Yep, I'm alone.
And my situation's pretty weird. My son goes with his mother's family, my family's scattered across the globe, just not near me, and my girlfriend's family has an issue with my son because of something he did 3 years ago when he was 6, so he's forbidden to attend their family functions and I refuse to go because of that. Sure, I could go anyway, but I know I'd say something mean and ruin the whole gathering.
So, he I sit, answering questions.

I would not place any value on their opinion. However am sorry your husband is in Iraq. Keep up the good work and try to forgive their ignorance when they come around one day.
