First, I object to the term 'homophobe', I think it's either a misnomer, or it's widely misapplied. Homos don't frighten me in the least, they aren't what I'd consider scary at all. I think 'homo-nauseated' would be a better fit. The sight of two gay men holding hands, or engaging in other PDA is more than a little revolting. That view does not make me afraid.

I personally don't give a damn what anyone does behind closed doors, but I have to say the mere idea of a couple of pole smokers getting busy is just straight vile, and I wish I didn't know about it ever happening.

Second, some of the ardent bible thumpers become more and more annoying every time they ply their faith, and the fables upon which it's based, case in point:
>> That's why we need Jesus Christ, to forgive our sins.
(My thoughts about this ran long, so I created a spin-off question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai710Kralsr9w.WhFHyJMDfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071124031610AAnmYP1)

More, I really don't get all the fuss gays make about what people tend to call them. Figure it out: if a man draws attention to his preference for gay sex, straight people are going to use words of their choosing in reference to that. If the gay sex doesn't bother them, how could the words be an issue?

Finally, homosexuality is an anomaly, and an aberration -- this fact is inescapable, it cannot be rationally argued. An instinctive drive intended to insure an adequate level of procreation, that somehow twists into same-sex attraction, can only be described as corrupted, it's abnormal, it serves no purpose, and those afflicted with this abnormality are but a small fragment of the population.

So IMHO, the solution to the gay problem is out of sight, out of mind, feel free to suck whatever you want in private, but don't burden the rest of us with even the premise (forget the details.)

Well, that is because socially, we have been saying how brave the single parent is but, for some reason, we have also socially allowed it to become "open season" on gays somewhere along the line. There were years when no one was throwing out gay jokes on HBO or the Comedy Network, but within the last 8 years or so, there has been a large number of comedians whose routines seem to be based entirely on gay-bashing and other really dis-tasteful content.
Shows like SouthPark, Beavis and Butthead, Drawn Together and even Family Guy are just slathered in shock-humor and it has made those with strong prejudices very bold. I had years where I did not need to let people know that their jokes where unappreciated, but now I am hearing more hate-humor and more stereo-type based humor again. Offensive, yes.
But I think also that many people are treading lightly around adultery since it is extremely common. Remember the "rush to confess" when the Monica Lewinsky trial started? As soon as the media began to expose the sinful among those pushing for impeachment for moral misbehavior, it got very, very messy for a large percentage of our legistrators and that is not even counting before-marriage activity.
Socially, we do ridicule and protect certain people and activities and this is constantly changing - any one public event can bring out a major rash of withheld sentiments. I am sure you will get your turn under the public sneer someday. Personally, I just think girls need to leave men like you at the curb. If you do not like how birth control feels, you should stick with your own hand for company.

You make an excellent point! Adultery is sin (there are always some who will argue the point), the same as murder is sin, stealing and lying is sin, homosexuality is the same sin, no more and no less. The reason the outrage is there is because, the gay activists want to force people (you included) to quit recognizing their sexual activity as sin. The extremists want their lifestyle presented as an alternate normal life style. Even to the point that it be taught in school to your children as a choice. And making religious groups accept their actions without question.

Unfortunately my friend there are many people in this world who are reactionaries and prefer to live in 1960/70 type sitcom scenarios where the ideal family is the nuclear family a Mum a Dad a son and a daughter and where the term gay only applied to something out of an Enid Blyton book.
It is sad that we are now living in the 21st century and there are still people who think that same sex relationships and single parent families is some kind of abomination into the very fabric of humanity.
Okay I know I'm going OTT with this answer but be good my friend.

Good Energies.

I agree in principle with what you are saying.
A sin is a sin is a sin. Homosexuality presented as the more deviant became prominent when the media began flooding us with images of the gay rebellion, parades, protests, presenting gay to the public as if it was some desirable self-righteous superiority. I blame the media for presenting mostly the extreme views of this issue.
If you and I, our type, had the media force approval for our ways on the average public joe, had parades to show the world how proud we are and made a public spectacle of our private lives, we too would become the object of ridicule.

Homosexuality is a sin like any other sin, and we ALL have sin. We can't judge what you have done or what they have done or what I have done as better or worse.

The media has helped to make a very polarized public issue of homosexuality, I believe most average joes are indifferent to homosexuality until it is flaunted in our faces or pushed down our throats. (no pun intended)

There is outrage, but the rights of the child are more important. It's already the law here in Canada with the Child Protection Act. Gays have a way to go yet. Soon I hope.
I will slam you if you like but, you already know, and my values are my own. Too late for you. Just teach your children well.

There isn't the same outrage simply because society, as a group, has the IQ of a barely conscious insect. Seriously. These types of false stereotypes to do with gay people or single mothers being sinners or "ungodly" are supported by the "majority" or "majority conformists". But, these quickly turn into fear and ignorance when subjected to the teensiest bit of scrutiny. It's that simple, I think.

Using "beliefs" (i.e., "religion"), to justify discrimination. Yeah, lots of truth, kindness, or goodness in THAT (I say with a sarcastic tongue)....all of which only shows one's attempts to "use" a legitimate veil to disguise simply garden-variety ignorance and fear. Much easier for these people to let others tell them how to think and what to believe than to actually open their minds up to differences within what is really sameness--what it means to be alive as a human and all the variations entailed in being one.

Your observation is an astute, intelligent, and informed one...in my humble opinion. It also exemplifies how ridiculous homophobia is, but also any other form of bigotry; it also shows that you possess the human qualities of compassion and *real* empathy...that seemingly (and, sadly) many lack and don't fully understand.

Even taking the most dismal view of the bible that all of the claimed admonitions against homosexuality are what is claimed of them (which is pretty hard given that Lot offered his daughters to be raped to the men that came into the town - rather a hint that somewhat more was a stake or that god is more evil than can be imagined) then there are around 600 times more admonitions against heterosexual sex.

Thats 60,000% more.

All you can conclude is that heterosexuals need far mroe supervision,

Dear Pangel (((((HUGS))))).
I would think that you are a wonderful mother.
Gwen and I lived without a church blessing for 42 years. If watertight legal solutions could be found that guaranteed us the same rights as married people then the anti gay marriage advocates could go their way in perfect harmony/
What about civil unions? Do they necessarily invoke Biblical or any religious bonding in their ceremonies?
I'm beyond it all now but feel deeply for those in trouble.

That's why i am an athiest. We don't care too tough for a made up thing such as sin.Such religious morals have no place in my life. The world is too full of diverse people doing diverse things in diverse ways and i think it's great.I am a single mom and was a single mom when i was married so no difference there. It's alway's the religious zealots that tut tut about "sinners" whilst beating on thier kids behind closed doors. They make me sick(and laugh).
