the american psychological association used to consider it as a psychological disorder until in 1973 it was pressured by gay activists to declassify it :

although homosexuals do what they do by their own free will and it is not a result of any disease,my question is doesn't it fit in as a disorder of the mind, just like raping, serial killing,etc...
my point is i know homosexuals are responsible for their actions.

being attracted to fat or ugly people isn't a disorder (as long as they are members of the opposite sex) because it is meant to be that way
i mean sex is a reproductive action if you do it with anything that can't result in reproductin then shouldn't that be a disorder or even a crime??
i mean declassifying it as a disorder harms the wrongdoers(homosexuals) it doesn't benefit them.

we are not animals the fact that lower species(animals) do it makes it more wrong doesn't it?? i mean dogs try to have sex with peoples legs does that mean it's ok for people to go down to such a perverted level and do the same kind of things animals do, i mean animals do lots of sick stuff too.
we have a conscious and we are intelligent beings we are above animals not like them , that is one of the reasons i said it should be a crime since it is a voluntary action and it is done knowingly.
jus as other acts of sexual misconducts are crimes too.

you dont understand animals can't have psychiatric disorders(at least i don't think so) and they can't commit crimes but people can, animals don't have conscious but people do ,people know right from wrong but animals don't , animals kill each other too they rape each other too because they don't have a conscious but people do.

kathrin r : it's amazing how you would use be prejudist against me, so now because i am black i cannot be a Christian??does my being black,blue,etc... change the fact that homosexuals are doing something that is appauling and un-natural?? you fail to answer my question ,you just wanted to rant against me.
well the fact is black people are judged and labeled as inferior/malicious /dangerous/etc.. because we are born with a different color than other people, that is it. that is prejudice you pre judge, without seeing a persons actions.
but in the case of homosexuality you don't pre judge homosexuals you judge them based on their actions, they chose to be homosexuals the weren't born to be homosexuals as much as theifs aren't born to be theifs and pedophiles aren't born to be pedophiles.
they made a conscious decision that reflects on their character, they weren't forced and they can change.they choose not to.
the thing is you just judged me by my color.who is the prejudist here??

I completely agree! I had asked a question similar to yours and it was deleted! It results form ppl who think they are for some reason, are trying to fit in, or haven't had a motherly/fatherly figure around enough.

What is, or is not, a mental disorder is largely determined by cultural norms and whether the individual can function appropriately in work, school or social life.
Being homosexual is not considered a disorder because no one can prove a homosexual can't function appropriately in the same way as any other person of similar means, intelligence, education, developmental level, etc.
Homosexuals were often considered untrustworthy, to have "weak character", or to have a tendency to molest children. It turned out that the only reason homosexuals couldn't be relied on was because they were in danger of being blackmailed for being homosexual. The other ideas turned out to be unfounded--a homosexual is not any more likely to be a pedophile than anyone else.
Ego Dystonic Homosexuality (having persistent homosexual feelings and not being comfortable with it) has also been taken out of the DSM (manual of mental disorders). Some psychiatrists may still use this diagnosis; but I'm pretty sure it's rarely used--I have worked in mental health for 20 years and I have only seen this diagnosis once.
However, Tranvestism (getting sexually aroused by wearing the clothes of the opposite sex) and Gender Identification Disorder (believing one was born with the wrong sex) are both still considered mental disorders. Why? I'm not sure. I guess the person with gender issues does have a period of conflict in his or her life. What about transvestism--who cares if a man likes to wear women's clothes for fun? I did hear a psychiatrist say that he thought it was strange that transvestism was still considered a disorder when homosexuality isn't.

The American Psychological association didn't change their minds because they were being pressured by homosexuals it was because they realized that gay people are no more likely to have a psychiatric disorder than any one else, I'm really sorry for you as a black person you would think that you would have learned from unreasonable prejudice. But I guess that you can't teach ignorant people any thing they don't want to learn no matter what their race and yes I'm a Black woman!
You know you have an mental disorder unreasonable prejudice!!!

No, absolutely not.
It occurs in other species than humans - so is it a psychiatric disorder there too?
And I think you will probably find that the approach by gay activists to the American Psychological Association was based on scientific evidence, showing that homosexuality is genetically determined.
If you are open minded enough you could research the evidence and find out.
Peoples' conclusions about homosexuality have a tendency to be based on their prejudices rather than on evidence.

No homosexuality is not a psychiatric disorder. Wow! I really thought that attitude was so outdated it didn't exist anymore. It was declassified for a reason, the reason being that it isn't a disorder. Homosexuals are no more responsible for who they are attracted to than heterosexuals. Oh, and serial killing and rape are crimes not disorders.
I can't help but be shocked by the biased, unforgiving and prejudiced nature of your question and attitude. I'm sure you don't mean it to be but it really is offensive.
