I'm gay, and I can tell you right now it's not. I wouldn't choose the DAILY hate and prejudice that goes along with this.

because it's mostly straight people who think that... what do straights know about being gay?

I'm sorry to hear that. Well obviously it's not a choice because you cant control the way you feel about something. The reason why people act this way is out of ignorance and most of them were raised to think this way. I come from such a family as well but my parents didnt really talk about homosexuality so I didnt think it existed until later in my life. To be honest I have always been okay with it. While it's true that you havent done anything wrong people will still be judgemental. Everyone has the right to do what makes them happy and if this is how you feel than go for it regardless to what other people say. They dont know you or how you feel so they have no right to tell you that what you're doing is wrong.
Best of luck!

I prefer to believe it is a gender disconnect. Seeing that there is no such thing as a "gay" gene, and believe me if there were, we'd hear about it, there had to be a time in your life where a trauma took place, maybe an over aggressive parent or a missing one, that messed up your mind. It would have happened at such an early age for you to not be able to recall it, thus feeling as though you were born that way. I don't hate or even dislike anyone because they are caught in a gay lifestyle. The other reason that makes me believe you were not born that way, is because of the way I notice many gay folks living or acting out their life style. For instance, one can look at any gay pride parade and see behavior that is not of normalcy. The fact you feel so disliked, hated, unsafe, maybe even unloved makes me believe God wouldn't have made anyone to go through that. Please don't play the race card. Black Americans ARE born that way. You have been sold a bill of goods and it is time to get back your life as well as your sexuality.

It's a simple matter of cognitive dissonance reduction and politics. If being gay is not a person's choice then one has to consider the possibility that God made them that way. Furthermore, if it's a lifestyle choice then it's not something inborn like race which a person can't change.

Among other things such a position legitimizes hatred of homosexuals (because as a choice it's in the domain of morality and thus not prejudice) and asserts it as a condition not protectable against discrimination.

Because people believe that God doesn't make mistakes and since they think being gay is wrong, stating that someone is gay by nature would imply to them that God made a mistake.

I'm a Christian. I'll leave the judging up to the Almighty, but from what I've seen, it's definitely not a choice and there are many gay people who would give a limb to be straight. As a minority, I do hope that when I have kids that they're not gay because life is going to be a bit more difficult as it is. No one wants their kid to face the BS that gay people face all the time. All this being said, I would love them and support them.

The people who think being gay is a choice obviously just don't understand. They are a narrow minded people. I am a straight woman but I can totally understand what it must be like to be gay. It must be hard. I've recently found out that my brother is gay and I think I've known it for a long time but he is finding it very hard to come out to our parents. I'm glad the the world is becoming more accepting to the gay community, but sadly there will always be these narrow minded people who insist on doing this to minority groups of people, whether its gay, black,Chinese or any other minority who face prejudices every day. Just know that no matter who you are there is going to be someone out there who doesn't like you, but there are many more people including me who are willing to get on with anyone as long as they are a nice person. It doesn't matter if you're gay. Just ignore the losers who put you down.

No because I think that if people had the choice of their sexuality then they would choose against homosexuality so they could live a 'normal' life. However I dont think its something your born with either, i think that feelings of attraction develop and people cant help how they feel!

Some relate your sexuality with lust. . In my opinion, if you don't like another's lifestyle, then stick to your own,but that's just me.
I have bisexual tendencies. Now I have a choice. I can lean either way. BUT if I was gay or perfectly straight, then it wouldn't really be a choice. It would be my natural sexual desire.

Dear Grey,
IF being homosexual is a choice then these people can feel justified in there hatred and mistreatment of us.
It's just that simple.

I think that for some it's a choice, but for most, it's at the genetic level.

I know of a family that all the brothers and sisters except for one, are all gay and lesbian.

I also know of another person who is lesbian, but adopted. When she found her biological family, turns out she has a lot of gay and lesbian in her extended biological family, yet not in her adoptive family.
Therefore,
I think it's something on the genetic level. One line of code in your genes that says what you're attracted to.

Because we choose not to practice that behavior. That we spend our lifetimes being what the world chooses for us doesn't mean we have to agree with them.
