You're thinking too hard. Relax. Have fun with this. And stay away from sex. There's other ways to express yourself to him than that.
I'm not a flowers and chocolate and candle lit dinners romantic. (I would love those though) But I'm good at giving gifts that wow people.
First, think about what he likes, what he talks about, what him and you talk about, what he talks about to friends. I write out a list and brainstorm. List anything and everything, no matter what or how silly. Don't hold back or censor out things. List his favorite shows, if he likes knives, leather, kung fu movies, blue things, sword or gun replicas, anything.
Next go online and look up stuff from your list on sites and store sites, especially eBay. eBay has unique things and I always get ideas from there. Look around and write down and save things you like or think he'll like.
I tend to look for practical, cool things. Shiny, sleek looking things. Leather jackets, sword replicas, jewelry, glass rose, redecorate his room (guy friend has this done to him and loved it).
My ex who I dated online for 2 1/2 years liked Final Fantasy games a lot. He also liked gloves. So I bought him some black Final Fantasy gloves off eBay. He loved them, dearly. There was even a pair of sunglasses that main character wears on Trigun that I was going to buy him, but I broke up with him. He loved those too and always said he wanted them when I showed him them online.
I also tend to wrap presents many times and in various boxes. That's always fun. Heck, wrap up a key to a chest or something that has his gift in it... or has a bunch of smaller gifts in it and a key to the big one.
That helpful? Just have fun. Lots and lots of fun and be unusual.

For Valentines day this year I got a fish bowl and put stickers on the outside saying "101 Reasons why I love you" and I cut out 101 red and white hearts and wrote one reason on each one and told him to pick one each day to remember how much I love him. It's cheap to do but it's something he will remember forever and it comes from the heart and sometimes when you make something it's more meaningful. In your case if you haven't said the L word yet, maybe put 101 reasons why your my soul mate or 101 reasons why I like you. Hope this helps!

My husband and I were together a month when his birthday came around. I bought him the Best of the Best cookbook and wrote a message in the front "to good food and great company", we've used that book over and over ever since and enjoyed every minute of it.

Outback steakhouse comes to mind. buy him something that reminds him of u.. a nice picture frame so he can see u anytime, No digital / cell phone pic, crap. make it a real picture, one taken with a camera and developed. also, treat him to a movie, they like that! buy him a movie he likes, go get him a shirt he likes, and last but not least, send HIM baloons and roses, at school, or at work, if he isn't in school, and make sure ppl SEE him get them! Not to embarrass him, but guys like that sort of thing too. take him to the zoo, hold his hand and see all the cute baby animals. tomorrow is black friday, go to wal-mart and get him somethin he loves, like a game system, and by now, you you should know what he loves. Find out his favorite food, and cook it for him.nude.

The proper gift in this case would be to bake him a nice cake that you made all by yourself. Put his name on the cake with love. There's something about a woman that bakes a cake for a man that makes him cherish her dearly.

By now you should be able to identify at least one thing that interests him, besides you of course. Find something related to his area of interest. I don't recommend that it be more than two figures. You should keep it within reason.
