Tobacco starts out as a living plant, and is processed into a smokeable form.

Is it sinful to smoke it, or has the sin already been committed by the tobacco processing consortium who has prepared the tobacco for your use?

What about plants other than tobacco such as marijuana, opium, or jimsonweed?

There is no sin.
"Sin" is a psychological concept invented by men into order to manipulate and control other minds and to enslave other minds and entities with everlasting bondage of guilt, fear, shame and personal depreciation of self-worth. THAT'S what sin is for.

A sin no ... To be avoided? Probably yes!

Let me share this story:

Charles Spurgeon smoked a cigar on daily for basis for much of his life. He never “repented” of this because he did not feel it was sinful. In 1874(during the birth of modern fundamentalism) a guest speaker in his pulpit spoke of how he “took his cigar-box before the Lord” and the Lord helped him overcome the sin of smoking.

Charles Spurgeon immediately stood up and said “”Well, dear friends, you know that some men can do to the glory of God what to other men would be sin. And notwithstanding what brother Pentecost has said, I intend to smoke a good cigar to the glory of God before I go to bed to-night. “If anybody can show me in the Bible the command, ‘Thou shalt not smoke,’ I am ready to keep it; but I haven’t found it yet. I find ten commandments, and it’s as much as I can do to keep them; and I’ve no desire to make them into eleven or twelve.

definite, you're actual lacking something. that's no longer a sin.purely like ingesting espresso, alcohol or soda isn't. Or eating chocolate or sugar isn't. Or making use of gas which others breath in isn't. Our priest grew to become right into a smoker, so if he ought to, how ought to that's a sin. If the physique is his temple, then i assume tattoos and piercings are a sin too.

It depends.

I believe that the Latter Day Saints believe that the body is a temple of GOD and that polluting it with any form of drugs, including nicotine, is an offense against GOD. I think this perspective makes sense, so I'm going with it.

It depends on what set of commandments that you covenant to obey. A Mormon smoking a cigarette is sinning but not a Methodist.

Nothing is a "sin" in my book, but smoking jimsonweed is just plain crazy - it can and does kill people every year.

Don't blame the tobacco industry. No one puts a gun to your head and forces you to smoke.

LUNG CANCER kills. That's my response.
It is your choice, however,

I wish you the best.

Granted there's no law "Thou shall not smoke tobacco", but Bible principles show us that it is wrong in God's eyes.

1. Addiction
1 Cor. 6:12- All things are lawful for me; but not all things are advantageous. All things are lawful for me; but I will not let myself be brought under authority by anything

2. Unhealthy
2 Cor. 7:1- Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear

3. Danger to others
Matthew 22:39- ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.

(If you don't love yourself enough to protect yourself, how can you show love to others?)

Matthew 7:12- “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them; this, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean"

(How would you feel if someone exposed you to poisonous gases?)

The Bible also advises us to take good physical care of our families, smoking usually takes a large chunk out of a person's earnings.

Sinful, no, it isn't. As for the others, they aren't sinful, but they are illegal in some countries.
