Mr. Clear: Yes, they stole most of it from the pagans, but then they twisted it to suit themselves.

I would love to think it's waning. My generation was brought up decently liberal and my children even more so. Christianity is "thriving" in third world countries but dying in Industrial. People are leaving faster then they are coming in. Sadly though, this just leaves a space open for the next "up and coming" faith that will most likely get power drunk and do the same thing.
Sometimes it's been too long since a certain group was the minorty and doesn't remember what it felt like.

Perhaps when all the wars stop??
Perhaps when there's a bit more respect for the very planet we live in??
Perhaps when people stop consuming certain animals to the POINT OF NON EXISTANCE!!!!
Perhaps when there isn't a contradictory "respect for human life" i.e.-Abortion is a terrible CHOICE, but who gives a *%&$ about health care for living children or anyone for that matter that can't AFFORD it?
Or perhaps, food, protection, and shelter for starving people--around the world ahahahha!!!?! How ridiculous.
Perhaps when people accept the responsibility of their actions and change for the better, instead of justifying horrible actions and stubbornness as the working of a higher being!!
That's just silly.
Perhaps when the notion of improvement overrides selfish desires and power?
Perhaps when people realize it may be human nature to be somewhat selfish..but as thinking, feeling, learning beings-- it has its limits in accordance to survival and circumstance.
Perhaps when people get their heads out of the POLLUTED CLOUDS, and take an UNCENSORED look around not only themselves, but everyone else.
Perhaps...when people with reasoning and premeditation [rather than rash decisions, and the reliance of "fate"] get real power and voice.
When people are capable of doing something selfless, without being looked at quizzically as a manipulative person, the world may be a better place.
I don't *care* what religion you may or may not be, when you are a sentient human being capable of looking around you and realizing the world is literally turning to s***, for reasons that are technically avoidable, or manageable.

In more progressive countries there already is freedom from religion. Not saying that here everyone is shoving it at me personally, but overall the American people care more about religion in their courthouses and stuff than running the government in the manner that it needs to be run. I figure organized religion will be around for a while for the reason that Moires stated most humans are simply too weak to give up what has been taught to them. I understand what you are saying about peace too. Peace will not occur until humankind realizes that they don't always have to be right. Nobody necessarily needs to be wrong for another to be right but most people don't see that.. Just another form of hate & intolerance

A long time yet, but at least we are getting somewhere... though it seems to be baby steps right now. Every time we take one step, something comes along and pushes us back.
And people like C L are the ones that push to keep us back. I noticed that he completely ignored your whole question and turned it into a fire and brimstone concealed threat. People like that don't want peace unless it's their peace. They are the type that, if it became legal, they would be burning heretics. Disgusting.

According to Astrology, it will be when the Age of Aquarius dawns. We are already heading into the beginning of the new age. Its my thought that the ancients used to watch the revolution of the shapes of the stars and noticed this, and that is why you see the Mayan year of 2012 as the end. Because it is... its the beginning of the end of the Age of Pisces and the transition to the Age of Aquarius.
Now I'm not saying that I believe in such things, but the ancients did.
Truth to tell, I don't think religion will ever die off. There are far too many weak human beings that need the crutch because they can't handle reality.
However, I think there's going to come a time when religion is simple accepted as a personal matter and no one elses business.
Or... religion will destroy us when some religious nutbag like the Shrub pushes that nuclear annihilation button.

The only way you can have peace and freedom is by not getting involved in major religious conflicts which cause war and disharmony.

pagans follow religion too, so I think they are being unfairly included in your profile there, pal.
As far as I am concerned, we already do have freedom of religion. Last time I checked, the inquisition was over. Nobody shows up to your door, puts a gun to your head, and orders you to worship Christ or GOD. The whole persecution complex is all in your head.

What do you consider religion?
There have been many profits, philosophers, that try and guide you, could name them but are many.
It is not profits, that are taking away freedom.
But Clerics, that think they know and understand, whatever profit they subscribe to.
Well they are all wrong, if they want to kill, nothing that has been tough, that some one should harm another.

prejudice intolerance and ignorance will one day be a thing of the past because it is right it will happen
but it is hard to cast off the beliefs that your family has had for generations I'm an agnostic and I'm an outcast to my family who are baptist
many more people will have to make that kind of sacrifice
