Don't you think that the old testament was written to instill fear in those who believed in a vengeful god?
The new testament was written when jesus was born - come to save his people - dont' you think that it would make more sense to follow the new testament?
I realize that both give the entire story about the development of God and so on but what parts do you actually use to guide your life to god?

I hope you have an open mind when it comes to your understanding of my answer. I believe in the Bible or as you call it the Old Testament. I am Jewish and there is no New Testament. I also believe that my religion is the right religion for me and not for you. You can believe in both or just the New Testament. Whatever religion you believe in is the correct religion for you. I have no qualms about which is the right one and who is the wrong one. I just see it as personal choice to be right for oneself. I do feel it to be wrong when any person decides that their religion is the only correct religion and everyone else should be made to convert to that religion. That is the basis of hate and bigotry. Two of the greatest sins in any Bible.

The Old Testament or old covenant is only covered in the books Moses wrote. The rest of the Hebrew scriptures make countless prophecies for Christian times including Jesus first and second coming, the 1,000 year judgment day, the righteous new earth, eternity, and more. It is ONLY the law covenant we are not under, not the entirety of Bible written prior to Jesus.

The new testament by far, to much violence In the old testament. For instance the tempting of Abraham to murder his promised son. The righteous man Job losing his family and all his belongings so god could prove a point. You can't replace your children with another family, I can't imagine loosing my three children. God knew what Abraham would do, if he was all knowing. So why put them through that, Sorry, just can't wrap my mind around that one. If Abraham and Job righteous men, what chance do we have if we are unrighteous. Talk about a tight spot. The Bible says not to temp our children and here he is tempting his children. I this happened today god would be on death row. Attempted murder of a child. Not to mention what the humane society would do.

NT makes the OT null and void: 2Cor3:14
"the old testament is done away in Christ";
like a last will and testatment does the first.

He taketh away the first (Heb 10:9)
"that he may establish the second".

Yet NT is contained in the OT as one of twain.
During probate, both are used for comparision.

To use all 66 letters is the reason people come to an accurate understanding of God's requirements.
This book is your motors manual to everlasting life, if you don't use it all, your motor(life) could run a muck.
2Timothy 3:16
(Romans 15:4) . . .For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.

New Testament for me. I follow what Jesus said.

Love thy God

Love thy neighbor

if you can follow that to the best of your ability not much else is needed.

Its not a "vs" - using the New without the Old is like trying to build a house without walls to support the roof. There's ONE Book - one revelation of the one true God and we need all of it to understand His full revelation and instruction to His people.

It isn't versus, it's together.
The Old and New work together to lay out the complete unfolding work of God.
