We all know that guns kill people, that government is our protector, and that there is no reason to desire to own a firearm in our modern world.

Why wait until the next president is elected, to do what we all know is best?

Those who are law abiding will surrender their weapons.

The others are lawbreakers, and should be eliminated.

Isn't it time we all became peaceful and trusting?

Why is the Old-West mentality tolerated? The police should plan sweeps and rid our nation of guns, once and for all.

Our local police departments have all the power and resources to do any "defending" that may ever become necessary. It's not like it was in the 1770's when the Bill of Rights was written.

Isn't it time we threw the "beliefs" of the older generation aside, and entered a new world of love and harmony? One free of guns and violence?

serious replies appreciated

I don't know if you are for real or kidding so I am going to take you are real .
First Guns do not kill people , People do , I have been around guns my whole life and I have yet to see a gun shoot it's self . Now lets look at some places where guns are outlawed Washington D.C. crime is if not the highest in the nation it's in the top three , and In Kennasaw Ga where it a law you MUST own a gun to live there crime is nearly zero .
I really don't know the police response time where you live but here it's one hour , so tell me what I am suppose to do for the hour or so till the police get to my house? Sit and watch while a rapist rapes my wife and daughters? of kills them .
Do you know what the leading cause of death in kids between 5 and 15 is ? Auto accidents guns are about 5th , did you know there were more kids sent to the hospital last year from sports accident than gun shot , so should we out law sports?
Say Pop.... Now that you have pulled your head out of your third point of contact maybe now you can see the truth .
Also the Police are under no obligation to protect you they can only enforce the law and till a crime has been committed they have no power so until you are a victim of crime they can do nothing.

Wow. Your scenario sounds pretty fascist.

"there is no reason to desire to own a firearm in our modern world."

Really? What if someone simply WANTS to own one? If a person is not going to use that gun against someone else, then there's no reason why they shouldn't have it. What about things like hunting, and those who enjoy shooting ranges? What about those who simply want them for defensive purposes (because even if the government tries to ban guns, we all know that a few criminals will manage to slip through, and I don't want to be one of the few pedestrians who ends up encountering one of these people and doesn't have any defense).

"Why wait until the next president is elected, to do what we all know is best?"

You mean, what people like you THINK is best?

"Those who are law abiding will surrender their weapons.

The others are lawbreakers, and should be eliminated.

Isn't it time we all became peaceful and trusting?"

Oh, they should be eliminated, should they? Talk about peaceful and trusting. How about "trusting" the vast majority of individuals who have guns for their own reasons and never intend to harm anyone else with it (unless in self-defense)?

"Isn't it time we threw the "beliefs" of the older generation aside, and entered a new world of love and harmony? One free of guns and violence?"

Your world doesn't sound like a world of peace and harmony. It sounds like one of fascism, where the government can meddle too much in people's lives.

Flame baiters don't get (or deserve) serious replies.

Rest assures though, the United States will not be disarmed.
